Is there a 200-yr limit?

Hi

I'm running OOTP9, latest patches, on a Macbook Pro.

I took the out-of-the-box MLB rosters and simmed ahead 100 years just to accumulate some stats. Then I simmed some more and some more (and posted about it here) and then I set it to sim until Jan 1, 2208, which would be 200 seasons since I started the sim (years 2008-2207).

When I looked at it the next morning, OOTP wasn't running. Looked like it crashed but left no error message. So I fired it up and loaded the saved game, and it was Jan 1, 2207. OK, I thought, I set it to stop 1 year too early, but that doesn't explain why the program had quit.

So I had it sim the 2207 season and it went all the way through, but then as it tried to save on 12/31/2207, it got to 10% of saving players and then just quit, no error message or anything.

Then I started wondering if there's a 200-yr limit. In all the years I've played OOTP I've run into limits at 200 in a couple of other places.

I remember in an earlier version I had 200 players in my lowest-level minors, and I tried to trade 1 player for 2 players, and the game would crash once I tried to complete the trade. If I released a player from Rookie ball before trying the trade, it was fine.

I also tried a historical (Lahman import) league a couple years ago, where I only played with a reserve roster and no minors, and I was only allowed to have 200 players on the reserve roster. More than that caused a crash.

So is it just a coincidence that this current sim dies after 200 years, after I've already found roster limitations concerning the number 200? Thanks for any insights.

There is a limit of 200 on roster sizes - it's one of the few hard-coded limits still in the database, but as far as I know you can sim past 200 years no problems.

I'm just running a sim to prove that, but I'm pretty sure I've run 400+ year sims before.

Yep. I'm up to year 300 in my test sim.

OK, thanks Tony. I guess it's just coincidence that some part of my league got corrupted right at 200 years.

It's just a sim so it's no big deal. I'll just start another one.
