Now I'm jealous of FM09...

One thing I have craved in OOTP is more interaction between player and management...whether it be the manager, or GM. Players get angry, but there's nothing you can discuss with them to make a determination on where to go. You can only act on things. You get emails, but you can't respond.

Press conferences would be awesome to have in the game, because the season is so long, and the complexities of the relationships would be amazing. Could you put yourself in Theo Epstein's shoes back in July, having to deal with a fragile clubhouse being wrecked by Manny Ramirez, a player with a no-trade clause? What about when you clean house and start rebuilding? What about the players who stick around?

Or what about that pitcher who has had three bad starts in a row? How do you handle his psyche through the press?

I am glad that Markus made the break from SI for many reasons. However, I do wish he had stuck around long enough to add this into the game. (I also crave a better 2D engine, more along the lines of ESPN's GameCast, but that's for another time).

What do you think of the idea of these kind of relationships in the game?

I'd prefer things like "leader ability" actually matter in the game first.

To date - I can't tell if it does.

that feature was just dumb IMO

I have FM 09 and am playing it non stop. I can't sleep. It's crack. OOTP is a good game, but FM is simply unreal. Check out the new 3d match engine. This is what I'd like to see in OOTP with a stadium background, but I reckon there a lot of AI issues to deal with first.

I wouldn't, since it matters zip in real life.

I'll take your word that FM 09 is like crack. I could never play a soccer(yes its soccer not football) game.

As far as the 3d match engine, I'm sure markus would love to do that sort of thing but then there is probably the money factor to figure in.

I love FM, but I couldn't get the 3d match engine from the demo to work on my laptop.

I agree fully. Adding in this sort of behavior would make OOTP a much more enjoyable game, though possibly not a better sim. Relations between players, managers, and GMs that would affect contract negotiations would add another level of strategy to the game without making it any more difficult to play.

I'm not a fan of soccer at all, but FM 09 is such a well designed game that I have a blast playing it.

I was just thinking about this. I think that would be awesome to have that kind of interaction in this game. The interaction between managers, players, owners, other managers and media in FM is so deep. It would be great in OOTP as long as it meant something and wasn't just fluff.
But all in all, I would rather see more accurate trading, free agency, waivers , ai moves before this. It is something I would love to see in the futrure though...

Sort of the same here. I love watching the English Premier League and the World Cup but I just don't know enough about the game, terminiology, and strategy to understand what I was doing in FM.

If you've ever played a team sport, you know how vital it is to have leaders on the field. Without them, even a team which is great at execution will be lost, floundering.

I think the relationship with the press would be awesome to have in OOTP, it would be a reason for me to buy the game again.

That being said, I agree with some of the others who just can't get into FM. I have tried it and because I know nothing about soccer, it is hard for me to get into.

Agreed. The day OOTP starts putting this kind of crap in the game is the day I stop buying.

I'm certain, as everything is in OOTP, that such features would be optional ... So why would you be so harsh about talk of a feature that would add a lot of immersion to the game and move it even closer to mimicking the day-to-day life of a general manager in baseball?

If you play soccer non-stop why would adding stuff to OOTP matter since you're saying you don't have time to play OOTP?

Now Styx, you know that it's unfair to use logic on this board.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

it would matter in that it might actually improve the game...and why the sarcasm?

Sorry to pop your bubble, meat, but it was football long before our 'football' was even thought of. Just b/c you don't understand it doesnt mean it adheres to your naming criteria.

A quick poll of the world's population would, indeed, show that it IS football. This is one sport that the US neither 'gets' nor controls. Pity, too, as it is 'the beautiful game'.

Well you're the one who said you play soccer all the time, addicted. I was just curious as to how making OOTP better would matter to you since from what you said you wouldn't have time for it anyway.

Personally I feel there are things in the game now that need improvement before adding all that fluff. If the current things needing improvement are fixed the game would be improved also. Adding new, and seemingly unnecessary things as far as the game operating correctly, without fixing the broken stuff seems a bit ridiculous to me and likely to chase off more people than the new stuff will attract, but I'm not Markus.

It does seem the fears of some on the boards from the past are starting to happen, slowly but surely, trying to make OOTP into another FM. I forgot who predicted this type of thing would happen within the next couple versions (that was when OOTP 08 was still in the works).
