The list of first time players eligible for the 1983 HOB Hall of Fame ballot pales in comparison to past years. Cincinnati outfielder Vada Pinson may be the only player this year with a legitimate shot to be nominated on his first attempt.

TOMMY HARPER
Does not appear to have the numbers necessary for induction, but it was a weak class so I had to have some eligible players on it. Harper won a World Series ring with the Reds in 1965. He was dealt to Houston for Jimmy Wynn the next season. As of 1983, Harper ranks 10th overall in alltime stolen bases.

GAYLORD PERRY
Perry was injured both times the Giants made the postseason during his tenure with the club, including 1969 when they won it all. He no-hit the Mets in 1964, which was his best season - finishing 19-5. His older brother Jim was 124-137 over 18 seasons with Cleveland.

I dont think Drysdale and Cardwell were worthy of first time nominations but they do belong in the HOB Hall. Hard to bypass Cepeda with 600 career homers. Pinson is debatable as a first time nominee but I watched him come up big in a lot of playoff games with the Big Red Machine. His 5 World Series rings and 3200+ hits get him in this year in my book.

Tiger Fan Hall Of Famer Join Date: Dec 2001 Location: Ontario Canada Posts: 9,814	My ballot P Don Drysdale P Don Cardwell OF Orlando Cepeda OF Vada Pinson I dont think Drysdale and Cardwell were worthy of first time nominations but they do belong in the HOB Hall. Hard to bypass Cepeda with 600 career homers. Pinson is debatable as a first time nominee but I watched him come up big in a lot of playoff games with the Big Red Machine. His 5 World Series rings and 3200+ hits get him in this year in my book. Keep the ballots coming.
