sounds good will stay posted, are you thinking of using all the heavyweights available to select your final 40? or are you choosing the early era of 1800's?

News December 1890
Jesus Magana Rk6 (Argentina) v. Will Olden Rk4 (USA) 11-12-1890
Olden outperformed Magana initially but in a result that shocked many, a flurry of punches set blood flowing from Oldens mouth in the 4th and shortly after, a thudding punch to his ribs sent him falling to the canvas. This is seen by many as a recovery by Magana after his disappointing bout against Andre-Luiz Salvan 3 months earlier. Magana has been quoted as stating that he would be happy to challenge Bertoldo Friuli for the title in the middle of next year. Punching Accuracy Magana 28.1%, Olden 38.5% Jesus Romero Rk9 (Mexico) v. Domingo Gonzalez (Venezuala) Rk6 18-12-1890 In another shock result, Romero KO'd Gonzalez with a devastating combination at the end of the opening round. Romero has been dubbed 'The KO King' due to the fact that he has won 10 fights....all by knockout. Punching Accuracy Romero 42.9%, Gonzalez 24.8% Michael Love Rk 34 (USA) v. Manny Benavides Rk30 (Mexico) 21-12-1890 In a closely fought tactical bout, Benavides won a split decision. Both fighters were cautious and other than a paralysing cross from Love in the 5th there wasnt much action to speak of. Punching Accuracy Love 34.7%, Benavides 37.8% Points Scoring Love 286, Benavides 288 OTHER NEWS Relegations Gorgonio Anicoche (Phillipines) 0-12-1 Don Cole (USA) 2-10-1 (1) Michael Love (USA) 2-10-1 Martin McPherson (USA) 1-9-2 Lane Patrick (USA) 4-9-0 (2) Gary Harrow (Canada) 2-9-1 Joe Mugglestone (England) 3-7-1 Bill Hanson (USA) 6-7-0 (5) Bernardo Lopez (Puerto Rico) 4-8-0 Juan Morales (Mexico) 3-9-0 (1) New Rookies Gustavo Borges (Argentina) Richie Gallagher (USA) Janani Kiano (Kenya) Rafael Reyes (Panama) Bill Truman (USA) Leonid Vzyatyshev (Russia) From now on 'News' bulletins will be posted as text docs in order that I can keep my own records etc. |

Update On Heavyweight Boxing
Just a quick update - my universe has now reached June 1894. There have been a number of rule changes following the creation of the PBA (Professional Boxing Organisation) on 01/01/1893. These are as follows:
To replace the previous two tier system, 32 boxers were introduced at beginner level and placed in a group called "Beginners" where they fight ten bouts in their first year and then compete in a knockout tournament, the winner of which holds the Gold Cup title. Those that reach the semi final stage of this tournament are promoted to the upper tier of PBA boxers. The bottom 4 boxers as at 31/12 each year are relegated to the "Beginners" group where they have to fight their way back to the upper tier. Fighters who compete for two consecutive years in the "Beginners" group are retired. The Heavyweight Champion must defend his title once a year against a top 5 ranked boxer in the PBA rankings. Any other title defence bouts which take place in the same year can be against anyone ranked in the top 20 in the PBA rankings. Fighters must compete once against a fighter within 5 places of them in the PBA rankings per annum. Any subsequent bouts during the year can be against a fighter of their choosing. Fighters who do not participate in a minimum of 3 bouts during any given year are stripped of their licence to box for a period of 3 years before they can compete. They are also introduced into the "Beginners" group to compete for the Gold Cup. Hope this makes sense.

question regarding boxers
The question I have is does anyone have any suggestions for heavyweights who could be introduced into the game to compete (initially at Gold Cup level) and then I can keep readers posted of their progress?
I have already considered John L Sullivan, James Corbett and Bob Fitzsimmons.....any other suggestions? Also suggestions of boxers over the next 10 years would be useful in order that I can plan ahead.....
