Kurt Warner.....H.O.F.????

I was just reading that Kurt Warner is one of only 11 players in the history of the NFL to amass 10,000 yards passing with two different teams. This got me to thinking, is Kurt Warner H.O.F. material? What say you?

He'll go in the same year Mark Rypien goes in.

I think they'll have to buy their own admission tickets too.

Absolutely not. He was a system guy with the Rams and undistinguished elsewhere.

Has anyone seen Sean Lahman's most recent book, The Pro Football Historical Abstract? Warner #70 Rypien # 72 on his list of top 100 QBs

If he does get in, I hope he drops the drops the sculpture of his head when he's on stage.

Football is played in such a situational way that rating players using primarily stats is tricky at best. Rules changes alone make it a daunting job. He will make money from it but it wont tell us much. Warner is far too one dimensional to be anywhere near the top 100.

No, not a top level player for enough seasons.

Is he much different than say Bob Griese?
Warner plays in a better passing era but
Griese had a much better team and yet won only 1 more championship.
Why should a player be thought of lower because he played in a system?
All qbs have to fit a system. You wouldnt make Marino run or keep Montana from rolling out would you? Regardless of what system a qb is in he still has to
make the plays.
Another thing is that wherever Warner goes he is suppose to just be the backup but he usually ends up starting.
Having said that it may take a few more good starting years for him to get in
if he is still waiting when players with stats like Peyton Manning are waiting aat the same time.

Should a HoFer spend much of his career as a backup?

Mind telling us who's in the top ten? Just so I can gauge the accuracy of said list.

Too close to call in my opinion. He has the stats, certainly. If he takes the Cards to the Superbowl this year then I'd vote yes. Otherwise it is a damn close thing.

Well thats kinda addresses my point. Warner hasnt been what you would call a true backup at all. Hes pretty much taken over as starter everywhere he has played in the nfl. Except for injury seasons. Hes started 85 of 103 games
in his career. Does that sound like his career has been spent mostly as backup?
I dont know about you but it doesnt sound like it to me .

But a real HoF would never be a backup in the prime of his career. A HoFer is either the best or second best QB of his day. Warner is nowhere close to that standard. The whole context of a HoF gets damaged when players of this caliber are considered for admission.

I agree. Not sure if it's your argument or my love of Red Green though.

Actually, 10,000 yards with 2 different teams is quite a bit of offense, I think.

I saw this stat and it made me think about how Warner was so dominant running the "greatest show on turf" offense with the Rams. I thought that Warner would be a close call as far as the HOF goes. I just wanted to get your opinions on it. I think that he is, if not a HOF'er, a fantastic story in sports history. Any sport!
