Here is the 1931 ballot. Thanks to all who voted last time.....hopefully there will be a worthy candidate this year!!! There are 4 new players to vote on, along with a couple of holdovers from past years. The new players are an interesting mix-2 who had very long consistent careers, and 2 who got late starts but were very good for a shorter time. Here they are:
Stuffy McInnis- Stuffy was a Firstbaseman for the Boston Red Sox from 1921 to 1929. He did not win any awards or set any records, but enjoyed a long consistent career on some very poor teams. As of the end of 1931, he ranks 8th in Hits, and 13th in RBI. CAREER STATS : Joe Wood- Joe was an Outfielder for the Cleveland Indians from 1921 to 1930. He really did not get a chance as a full time player until 1921, at age 31, but he made the most of it. He was a 2-time AL Outfielder of the Year. He was named to 6 All-Star Teams(.333, 1D, 3R). He was a Batter of the Month 3 times in his career. He holds the Cleveland Season Records for- Hits(221), RBI(124), and Hitting Streak(25). As of the end of 1931, he ranks 12th in BA, 21st in RBI, and 9th in Doubles. CAREER STATS : Ken Williams- Ken was an Outfielder for the St. louis Browns from 1921 to 1930. He didn't get a chance to be a full-time player until 1 year before the HBL started, in 1920. Like Wood, however, he made the most of his time. He was named an AL Outfielder of the Year 2 times. He was named to 4 All-Star Teams(3-6, 2D, 1R, 2RBI). He was a Batter of the Month 2 times in his career. He holds the St. Louis season records for- HR(25), Runs(131), and Walks(114). As of the end of 1931, he ranks 7th in HR, 25th in RBI, 12th in Walks, and 19th in Runs. CAREER STATS : Edd Roush- Edd was an Outfielder for the Cincinnati Reds from 1921 to 1930. He was named an NL Outfielder of the Year 3 times. He was named to 2 All-Star Teams(0-3, 1R). He holds the Cincinnati season records for- BA(.366), Hits(214), and Triples(19). As of the end of 1931, he ranks 11th in BA, 10th in Hits, 20th in Doubles, 5th in Triples, 15th in Runs, and 11th in SB. Many of his numbers were hurt by the very poor offense that the Reds have had through most of his HBL career. This is evidenced by the number of AB he got in his final season, shown below. CAREER STATS : Also, held over from last year are Zack Wheat and Bob Shawkey. Wheat was only 2 votes away from induction last year, and Shawkey needs a vote this year to stay on the ballot. Information on Wheat can be found here: http://www.ootpbb.com/board/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=2&t=000111 Information on Shawkey can be found here: http://www.ootpbb.com/board/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=2&t=000123 I will keep the voting open for a couple days or so. Thanks for voting!!

Keeping his pitching stats in mind, I'm gonna vote for Wood only.

Some intriguing, but sadly, another blank ballot.
EDIT: I had no idea about Wood's pitching. Nearly 2000 hits and 116 pitching wins. I'll revise my ballot (if allowed). [ February 24, 2002: Message edited by: Squall ] |

Are you people with the blank ballots taking inot consideration that this Joe Wood is the same Joe Wood who posted these pitching stats:
with the Boston Red Sox and should probably be elected based on these alone and some lucky Boston media bias (Gammons is on the veterans committee and votes for Wood every year...)

For some reason I completely forgot about the pitching stats. Thanks for bringing that up....they should certainly be considered in his HOF voting.
