M & M's Field - for Commish Joe
Commish Joe requested this ballpark for his New York Yankees franchise. He asked for a stadium in downtown Manhattan with a retractable roof, easy accessibility by ferry traffic, and named M & M park to honor Mantle and Maris - and also because the candy company Mars bought the naming rights.
(I'll let Joe fill you in on the rest of the history, dimensions, capacity, etc. - if he'd be so kind as to post a reply to this topic.) A few construction and design notes: M & M Field is located in Battery Park on the southern tip of Manhattan. Center Field faces southeast across the Hudson offering stunning views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the Jersey shore. The large centerfield scoreboard raises and lowers between innings to offer unobstructed views. Both the scoreboard and the retractable roof are operated by hydrolic mechanisms that are virtually noise-free. The Yankees retired numbers and championship banners hang high above center field from the rafters, Here's a view of the stadium with the scoreboards raised: Last edited by Teflon Skies; 04-12-2003 at 06:15 PM. |

Amazing, but I'd request a smaller scoreboard in center (pic two). Even if not that is one of the bet yet!

Non-Yankee Version
Here is a little simpler variation on the original design:

One more reason to hate the Yankees.
This park makes Great American Ballpark look like it's made from an Erector Set. |
