Weather was a top 3 reason why I moved from Philly to San Diego. The women were the first reason.

With all the moaning that's gone on since last night about all sorts of different facets to the decision to suspend the game, if I was in the same situation in future I'd go by the rule book. At least everyone would know what was going on. It seemed as though the two GMs knew it was nine innings whatever, but why not tell everyone else? It just doesn't make sense.
I can see why they cancelled it tonight so early, because although the winds are still forecast to be pretty breezy tomorrow, they're not forecast to be anywhere near as gusty and the chance of rain has almost gone from near certain last night to a small chance today.

If they simply removed the extra days off inserted last year, the World Series goes back to starting on a Saturday and potentially running over two weekends, which is exactly what FOX doesn't want. As long as MLB is beholding to the television networks for all that money, it's going to have to accede to the network's wishes about a one weekend World Series.

See above.

The trick here is to create a post-season schedule which allows for a World Series which starts on a Wednesday and thus runs over only one weekend but doesn't take as long to play overall as the current schedule. To do this you need to cut not only the four extra days inserted last year, but an additional four days, or a total of eight days. To achieve that travel days would have to be eliminated.

I don't understand why Fox would want to protect their weekends. They run nothing of note on weekends. They want to make sure they don't have to pre-empt Cops two weeks in a row?

If you said they don't want to burn Tuesdays, I'd understand.

I can say, that the rain you saw last night, has not stopped. Its still pouring and its not supposed to stop. I can't see this game being played tonight unfortunately.

I'm just counting on it being played Wednesday, you should all do the same because it sucks here right now.
ESPN is reporting its already cancelled tonight..won't even try it. which makes sense to me if its still raining that hard.

I'd guess it has more to do with reducing competing with the NFL on Sunday twice to only once. Plus, if I recall correctly, Saturday evening is traditionally the day which draws the fewest television viewers in the U.S. (for any kind of program).

Do you have a source for that? That may be the case for regular season games, but I don't think it applies to the World Series.

They wouldn't. They'd just push the game back to the next day.

Personally, in this day and age, I really don't see the need for the shortened game rule anymore. Why not just say all games must be played out to nine innings, and if rain halts a game early, even after one inning, it becomes a suspended game to be completed later.

The shortened rule may have had its place in the day when the fields were not as well-maintained, parks not as well-constructed, and when teams travelled by train. But that's not the case today.

Now this I can agree with. Personally if I was running the MLB I would ahve told Fox where to go and hwo to get there. This isnt' the NHL, people in the states actually want to watch baseball, so the networks should be cowtowing to them, not the other way around.

If only that were the case. Dancing with the Stars beat baseball last night even though it was a possible clincher.

I can give you about 257 million reasons per year for seven years why MLB didn't.

I agree completely. I just hope that they change what's in the rule book in the off-season so that such confusion, or lack of communication really, doesn't happen again.

Money's been a part of the game since it turned professional. The only difference between then and now is the amount of money involved.

In an ideal world, there is no money, and there is still baseball.
