Strategies & Equivanlencies Question

Hi -

My objective is to create a 162 game league starting in 1871, add some players to fill out the pitching staffs and import real rookies each season. I want the league to evolve organically with an emphasis on ratings and not on real era changes. I want the league to play like a 70's-80's era league from the beginning to the end. If I de-select the auto modifiers what should I do next? If I import the settings and totals of a particular year, say 1985, the league total modifiers are based on 26 teams not the 8 in my league. I can't figure out if the game will use this for the initial season and not look at that for subsequent seasons if I deselect the adjust league total modifiers option or not look at it at all?

I have read through the manual a few times and tried this out too. I think I have more questions and it someone can give me a detailed explanation or relate some experience it would be GREATLY appreciated.

From what I understand there is some issues with historical when starting before 1903. I can't offer much more, but maybe try digging a bit with search.
