In the end you are always smarter but I really think that the Cubs need someone like Brian Roberts from the Orioles and of everything I have read they were close to acquiring him this past offseason.

He is the spark at the top of the order the Cubs were imo lacking these playoffs. Maybe they can get him this coming offseason.

Well, I'd say it depends on how one is defining "top tier." Over the last five seasons, the Cubs have been in the top one-third of the league in terms of opening day payroll.

It'd probably be useful to compare their opening day payroll to the MLB median payroll (as oppposed to average, which is skewed upwards by the Yankees). But I don't feel like calculating that out at the moment...

No problem.

You've helped immensely already, thanks.

Did anyone see the Billy Goat in the park during NLDS?

They really need to let that billy goat watch a playoff game... Maybe all of them i don't know? Funny no one has brought up "The Curse" yet.

I'm not a hardcore "Cubs" fan i like the "Braves" but i guess its time for talks of the curse yet again? They just blow up every year... Now with the "Dodgers" out it looks even worse.

If the Billy Goat really does stink they need to build him his own seat away from the crowd.

Curses don't exist.

Paraphrasing Billy Beane-you can build a great team to win in the regular season, but in the playoffs, its a crap shoot.

Add in the fact that certain cubs (fukudome, soriano) just sucked for 3 games, and its not really all that shocking. It sucks, but as a Cubs fan, its not like I'm in any worse of a spot than I was this time last year. Or any of the other years of my lifetime. So we didn't make the series, great. But we had an awesome summer with a ton of fun games that made me love not having a job so I could sit home and listen to Ronny or watching with Len and Bob and have a few beers and enjoy my summer. Then we lost, and it was over. It happens. I've suffered through much worse years-at least this years team was competitive-as opposed to the years of Mike Harkey, Shawn Boskie, etc.

And hell, spring training is just a hockey season away. I'll be all over that stuff again, and I'll spend next summer sitting on my porch, listening to Ron Santo and living and dying on every pitch right along with him. It'll be awesome, and it'll make me happy to be alive. Next year they might win the World Series, they might not. If they do, I'll be happy. If they don't-well, shoot. There's always next year, right?

good post i agree... just now is the time all those talks of billy goats usually comes up i think its kinda silly as well.

Maybe they have created to much pressure as a Cubs player to win it all.
So in a way they have kept this so called curse alive them self.Parading a goat around the field etc maybe it really is a curse just not in the classical since ,this one they have made them self's with so much pressure to win.

Like you said the most important part as a fan is to enjoy yourself, long as you can do that it doesn't matter if your team wins the big one or not.
