For me, perhaps because of the time I grew up in, it is natural to use my imagination to fill in the gaps. That is how we played when we were kids. A stick could become a sword, or a rifle. A towel could become a cape. An empty lot could become Cannae, or a beach could become North Africa and you could become Erwin Rommel.
No number of graphics can give me what my imagination can and does, which is why I love text-based games. I agree with Bomber you said it perfectly Antonin In years gone by now i used to love playing war simulations more so if it was a WW2 invasion of Russia scenario, guess in spite of my age i am still a young man at heart. I played many war games where by today's standards the graphics were abysmal. They were just icons representing armoured, air force or infantry divisions but like Antonin said i loved being the overall commander of the German forces, deciding where to attack with my elite SS panzer divisions. Often as i do with many simulations i used to play i would always watch a video film of say the invasion of Russia just to get me excited and in the right frame of mind to enjoy my game. What i loved about the invasion of Russia simulations was the fact that true to life the deeper i penetrated into Russia it was harder to keep my forward divisions in man power, fuel and supplies. Plus the Russian troops with there overwhelming man power and there remarkable endurance and fighting spirit and of course with the hated Stalin commanding the overall picture for them it made it harder and harder for me to penetrate even deeper into that vast country. I suppose its so true what our women say about us "You men will never grow up your like little children" --- do we care ? --- NOT A BIT bless em

Yes, I agree with the statement about women saying that we're like "children" inside! They stop saying, "grow up," after a while when they get mad . I guess they realize it's hopeless!Concerning what Antonin said - the right shaped stick used to make an excellent revolver and bicycle doubled as the horse back in the days of the "imaginary Wild-West." Then we'd all go to the store and buy gum, chocolate and baseball cards. Last edited by Jersey-Jim; 10-05-2008 at 05:46 PM. |

I love chatting with you guys about the old times because we have all been there and done it. Its only a pity we all live so far apart from each other because it would be great if we could all share a beer or even a cup of coffee together and really get to know each other

As I enter the fall of my life I keep hoping that someday I will get back to the UK.
*sigh*

But that's not the problem, everything would be the same if OOTP Development had bought TBCB. Of course I had the plan to patch TBCB frequently and also to release TB3 ASAP. But you know how life is, sometimes plans don't work out. Sometimes the plans are bad but very often there are just certain things happening and the plan don't work. Here it was just the fact that our split from SEGA together with the catastrophic USD exchange rate and with the decreasing number of PC computer game sales in the USA forced us to create an additional product. Without additional programmers of course. Markus and I are working as much as we can. But there's only very little time to work on TBCB. And I really wish it would be different. If we earned more money with TBCB we could hire a programmer for it (very difficult and very expensive, though) or we could just concentrate on OOTP plus TBCB. But unfortunately, we really need OOTP Online because without it we will get into financial trouble. I still want to patch TBCB and to release TB3 sometime. But first we need to earn some money, guys. I'm sorry! I just uploaded the beta patch 2.5.26 which fixes the following problems: - removed question before using cover up strategy - tweaked strategy usage. More ofthen the fighters will use "fight normal" Here you go: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/tb/publicbeta/tb2.5.zip Unzip and copy the exe into your TB program directory. I suggest you save the old tb2.5.exe first, or just rename it. Have fun! |

Thank you for the update and the patch. Let's hope the economy turns around as quickly as possible for everyone's sake.

Andreas thanks for the honesty. I can definitely understand the economy and it's effects on business. I understand the need to focus on the breadwinner even if i do not like it. Hang in there, let's hope things improve so our little game can get some more focus.

Andreas Raht, Did you ever talk to Brian from EA sports Fight Night Round 4? He was telling me he was a fan of your game. He has a MySpace page set up;it's in my signature. Maybe you guys can help each other being that your games aren't direct competition. He is definitely a fan of boxing and he's trying to bring every element he can to the next Fight Night game.

Great post Danny! You took the words out of my mouth. It takes a certain type of person to enjoy this game. I would be willing to say that most on here probably would rather read the book than see the film,if you know what I mean. I fell in love with this game as a youth in the late 70's and my love for it has never waned. Anyway, just wanted to say that this was a great post Danny. I usually agree with you about 99.9999 percent of the time and always enjoy reading your thoughts and opinions. You are one of the most thought provoking and intelligent people on this forum and that is saying quite a bit my friend. Peace.

Great to read these posts. I actually was in the UK in May. My stepdaughter lives in Hitchin, about 45 minutes outside of London. Great little town where you can walk to everything. When my wife and I retire we want to find a town like that somewhere in the US, but may be difficult. We also spent a couple of days in Brussels.
I spent last evening on YouTube watching some of the great old fights. One you want to catch is Ernie Shavers and Tiger Williams. The ending is hilarious, but it was the fight that got "The Acorn" a title shot at some guy named Ali. Anyway, my favorite saying - "It's inevitable that we grow old, it's an option that we grow up". |
