Promotion of coaches

So I have read and experienced the fact that you can only move coaches around by bringing them all the way up to the bigs before sending them back down to the level you want them at. My question is there anyway that you can edit these so that we they don't get mad at the promotion then demotion?

Go into commish mode and you can do all the promotions and demotions you want. Just select the coach you want and edit his team he is on. Sometimes I do this to promote an A coach to AA.

I'm endorsing this as well and is no cheat, IMO. The other approach seems silly, like musical chairs.

You just have to keep track of the guys who get bumped if you want to retain them. For example, in a test that I just did, the hitting coach that I moved down to AAA bumped the guy that I wanted at the MLB level to available personnel; I had to go find him there and bring him back to the parent club.

Thanks for the tip, AirmenSmith.

So, you should create the vacancy first, then fill it?

And yes, that was excellant advice, Airmen Smith.

couldn't Markus build a macro that did this same thing and allow for a menu selection? I admit I don't know much about code but it seems if it is possible to do it through a workaround that a macro could do the workaround for us?

Something on that order would be a welcome addition, but my guess is it will wait for a future version's release, if it's added at all.

Same thing would result. We were talking about swapping two coaches, both of whom we wanted to retain but at different levels. It seems pointless to fire the second guy when editing just removes him anyway. You just have to remember who he was and go get him back from the available personnel pool.

Ah, that's a difference in philosophy. When I play (rarely these days) MLB-based fictionals there are five to seven minor affiliates. Generally I'll fire a couple of guys at each position, hire a couple and move the rest around. If I do the firing and moving before the hiring, then I shouldn't have to worry about retrieving anyone from available personnel — or am I still not understanding?

okay this looks like something I am going to have to do cause over and over again I am not able to treat coaches the way that makes sense. So two questions. How does this work with the contracts do you edit those too? If someone that knows how to do this can kind of give a step by step so that I don't f' it up I would like that very much.

All the contracts will stay as is when moving coaches from franchise to franchise via Commissioner mode.

Cool but I meant taking a FA coach and putting him on a team how would I "assign" a contract?

Does the AI have the ability to promote/demote coaches and staff? If so, I don't see where this is a cheat. If the AI can't, then I would suggest it is in fact a cheat.

You know, since the A.I. isn't logical enough to handle staff promotions/demotions, I'd suggest going back to the old 6.x style where you had your entire organization's staff on the same screen. On this page you could switch, fire, promote and demote easily without the need for a cheat.

Was that drag-and-drop?

You can assign him a contract via Commissioner Mode, in the same place you assign him to a team. Once you "act" on the team move, the options to record the contract appear.

Cool no more zero year exp low rating 30k (1962) coaches. Now I can work off that. Over course I will pay them slightly more then league ave at their spot if I hire them this way so as not to feel like I "cheated". Thanks guys.

I think the argument could be made that, given the AI is often - very often - able to acquire coaches and managers without the human-controlled team ever having had the opportunity to make an offer, a certain balance exists.
