Importing Historical Players

My league is just passed it's first all star break. We're an MLB based league using Cubbyfan's 3.1 rosters in OOTP9. Somehow along the way all the retired players disappeared out of our league file (probably because I'm a first time commish and screwed something up), and our career leaderboards and Hall of Fame were empty.

So at the request of some of my GMs I started importing historical players into the free agent pool, retiring them, and inducting them into the league's Hall of Fame. Guys like Ruth, Aaron, Koufax, Ryan, etc...

But now we're starting to notice some of our active players star ratings go down. The more historic players we add, the more we seem to see this. For example, Chien-Ming Wang was a 4 star player at the beginning of the league, and now he's a 2 star player.

Is this just coincidence? If it is happening because of the addition of the historic players, is it impacting how the active players perform, or is it just lowering their star ratings? Would deleting the historic players we added cause the active players to "recover" their star ratings?

Once all the 4 star players hit the free agent pool all the other player ratings will tend to go down. Retiring them instantly won't help, nor will deleting them. Think of it as if you just doubled the water level in a tank so what used to be half full is now only a quarter full. Which means ratings drop. Over a period of several years things will even out but your stuck until then as far as I know.

Thanks for the response. I think the issue is that most of the historical players were 1 star when imported because they were older, so that drove down the overall talent level of the league. Guess we'll have to stop importing.
