My Database Got Corrupted
Not in a good way, either.
Just when I thought I was going to catch a break in an otherwise #!$%&! day, I start TBCB 2.5 and it tells me it can't find such and such file or can't open it. After doing a bit of digging, I noticed multiple backups in the My Documents folder. I copied what seemed to be the latest backup and pasted it into the folder where the files should have been but seemed to have disappeared. Thankfully, everything was restored 100%. Now, I just have to make sure I copy all of the database files and pictures onto a flash drive for safe keeping. One good thing about this version, I was able to recover from a crash easier than any previous version. |

Jim, I had something similar happen to me at the end of July,
and thankfully I had also purchased the CD version, and was able to start again even if I lost about 350 fights from my Universe, at least I didn't have to purchase the game all over again.

I had something similar happen in version 2.0. One day, certain files were gone. If you have mulitple universes (or at least two), you can go back and forth comparing files and see what's missing. I had my history file corrupted once, and now this. I did get it back though and as always - the reminder to always back everything up.

I learned my lesson the hard way last year.
Now I back up after every play day. Glad to hear you made out ok.

How does this stuff happen? I've haven't ever seen this, but maybe it's only a matter of time. Is it the game doing this or the operating system or what? Bloody PC gremlins! I have a version of the whole thing loaded on a usb memory key, but it needs updating.

I'm from the 2001 Space Odyssey generation, and I swear that in every computer there's a HAL.

This happens when you are feeling happy and content with your universe. It's like ordering a tall "Smooth Sailing" for the Universal Diner and the waitress comes back a moment later saying, "I'm sorry, we're all out of that."

This series of events is brought to us by the same folks who bought us gravy stains on white shirts. They go way, way back. Don't neglect your updating for too long.
