To old to improve!?
I find it rather difficult to decide when a player is to old for my minor league teams. Is there a set age from where players dont really improve anymore? For example i have some 28 year old players in my tripleAAA, and they have very high potential ratings, but they just wont improve. When is it time to give up on them? (coaches and scouts are off)

There's no magic number, really, which is a nice mirror of real life.
If they have really high potentials and are just hanging out in AAA, promote 'em to the show if you have room for 'em - sometimes advancing to the next level will jump start them. If not, then you may be able to get good trade value for them. Better to have a 21-year-old high-ceiling prospect than a 28-year-old AAAA player. |

I tend to allow draftees three years (regardless of starting age) before releasing them. AAA I let go to 30. AA stops at 28. A is 26, and below A is 24.
Then again there's a dozen MLB regulars on other teams that I released as 24 year olds. No stars amongst them, but good solid players. In 6.5 I used to trade out 25yo that weren't looking like developing (1star overall, 5 star potential), and bringing in 26yo's with talent but low ratings - as the computer rated them completely different depending on their age being 25 or 26 - one day made all the difference. Don't do that anymore (I'd like to think I'm a better player now, though I don't win as often, it's more rewarding when I do) - but the same principle may still apply. It depends on how the game views prospects above a certain age. |

Age doesn't matter to me, but if you are 30 and pitching like crap in AAA it's time to send 'em packin'.

The peak years of a player's career are supposed to be in the 27-29 range, if that helps. Though I think I've read some posts that for OOTP9 the game engine has players reaching their peak more quickly than that. Which you can always manipulate for yourself with the aging modifiers, which are somewhere in the league setup section, though I don't remember where off the top of my head. But after that point, it is likely, though not guaranteed, the player is as good as they are ever going to be.
