What does everyone think about this-should the Yanks given up the youngsters to get Johan Santana when they had the chance?

Looking forward to my first visit to Yankee Stadium next week....might even cheer for the Yanks (to avoid getting beaten up)

Loaded question, tipped off by "when they had the chance". Well, I will appear pig-headed by saying that I still like the Yankees not having gone down the road of trading the future for an expensive player with his career years possibly behind him. Even now, with Hughes, Kennedy, and Cabrera all in the minors, on the DL, or both. BTW, all those guys are hanging around with Carl Pavano right now . . .

Definately not. The Yanks needed to begin a youth movement, and it looked like they had a solid trio to build around. Why trade that for a $20m/year pitcher, even if that pitcher is a solid left handed ace? I still think that Hughes can develop into a solid #2 behind Chamberlain assuming both can stay healthy. As for Kennedy, the jury is still out on him. He's got the stuff, but can he learn how to use it at the ML level? I also think that Cabrera will re-find his spot on the team. If not, he still has some trade value to get us someone who will.

Agreed. Basically, I like the style even if this particular transaction does not work out. Even if it meant the difference this season, although I really doubt that.

On a different but still related note, can you guys believe Carl Pavano may be pitching for the Yankees on Saturday?

Astros, I use the default 20-post per page setting, which means the next page for me starts with post #641. Could you post on or just after that number and keep on posting every 20 or so? This way, I don't have to go back to previous pages to find your avatar. Thanks very much.

Oh, yes indeed. That's for sure. We're taking bets on whether he injures himself climbing up the pitchers mound, though.

Whenever I see the word "Ghost player" in OOTP manual, I think of Pavano...

Well, he did pitch decently last night and avoided injury, so far. "Back from the dead," so to speak.

Yankees have to go 21-12 just to finish with 90 wins. Sorry Yankees fans. This season is done.

Edit: Goodbye Yankee Stadium!

HELLO?

Quite a strange sensation being in a series with the Yankees knowing they can't catch us.

Kudos to Masterson though - bases loaded, A-Rod comes to bat and he gets the DP.

This is why I hate when other fans post here. Its a Yankee thread for Yankee fans discussion. I just couldn't bite my tongue anymore.

It has nothing to do with how awful A-Rod has been this year with RISP. I could have gotten him to ground into a double play with my 40MPH Fastball.

Great to see the MLB double-split screen works perfectly. It told me that all his 28 HR's came with RISP, but also that all 28 came with the bases empty.

If it means anything, I hate the Red Sox about as much as I hate the Yankees. I'm an Angel fan and we don't have any problems with the Yankees, really. The Red Sox, we do.

However, Yankee ownership is one of the, if not the, most likely to go the extra mile to appease it's fans by attacking free agency with a will to win second to none. As a non-fan of the Yankees, it just heightens my interest in all of the subplots created by this and, although I'm sure Yankee fans are good people, they're deserving of a little Karma every once in a while just like the rest of us.
