Illegal number of players on active roster

I'm playing an historical league and when I 'auto play today' Iget an 'Illegal number of players on active roster' error for a minor league team that I'm not even managing. I cannot play out the day.

Which version of the game are you using, please? If you are not using 9.1.6, could you try that and let us know if it fixes your problem?

I'm using 9.1.6 (Valve) and can't continue my league with this problem. I made several big trades which cleaned out my minor league system and I don't have enough players to continue.

You can enable ghost players temporarily until you sign enough guys to fill in. It's under Game Setup -> League Setup -> Options (of your major league) -> Player Options. This option will fill in your team with imaginary scrub players so that you can play out your games.

I am having a similar issue with a fictional league but with real teams. The problem is though that I am guessing when montreal is added through expansion they do not participate in the expansion draft. I have tried filling their roster with fictional players, but they refuse to promote any players to the major league roster. They always have 8 or 9 active players even though they have over 120 players in their organization. Their 40 man is full. I have enabled ghost players hoping they will promote them but they do not.

I have checked all the usual things that may be causing this. I have made sure that the computer is allowed to make roster changes, and scouting is off so that is not an issue. I have even done an impromptu expansion draft, picking one player from every team and sending them to montreal. They immediately demote them to the lowest level of their minors.

Has anyone else seen this? This is the second time I have seen this with montreal when running a sim like this.

Edit to add: I am using the latest patch also.

Okay, I figured it out. After spending over an hour trying to fix it I typed the above, then it dawned on me. The problem is that I had no foreigners allowed in the game set up menu. I guess it counts those players on the roster as foreigners, because after I set it to no limit, the AI set there lineups up correctly.

So, if someone has a similar issue in the future, thats it. Carry on.
