AMMY Draft not generating enough kids/disparity

We are using 4.2b and have the ammy draft set to 12 rounds. This year, the game only generated enough kids for 5 rounds (and a REALLY crappy crop I might add). My co-commish simmed ahead 3 years, and noticed that it only generated enough for 10 rounds.

Also, there seems to be a big disparity between the talent of hitters and pitchers. The amt of decent - great pitchers always seems to be a LOT more then decent - great hitters. The hitter pool always seems to have a couple of potential future stars, then slacks off BIG time, while the pitching pool gradually declines.

Just figured I'd get these concerns out there now so that when OOTP v5 is beta tested, this could be looked at closely.

I agree completely. In OOTP3 good pitchers in the ammy draft (fictional players) were far more rare than good hitters - this was mentioned frequently in the forums. As for OOTP4, IMO it went too far the other way to correct this imbalance and as you say it produces far more decent - great pitchers than decent - great hitters. I'd like to see that evened out more in v5, and maybe a little more randomness in the breakdown of quality pitchers versus hitters from year to year.

I got a little bit shouted down for saying this before, but I've simmed about 6 more years of my solo fictional leagues and things have not changed - I'm still not getting brilliant hitters in my drafts. In 12 seasons I have, in fact, not seen a single hitter who would make the Hall of Fame in real life. Maybe one.

So, ya, I agree with what's above, wholeheartedly.

I have also noticed that there seem to be more good pitchers than hitters. It would be nice if it was balanced out a little in V5. As far as the game not creating enough players for the draft, I have never seen this personally. I use a 10 round draft and the creates exactly the amount of players needed.

Good pitchers are easier to produce since u can turn a descent reliever into a real good starter when you draft them.

No players in amateur draft

I'm new to OOTP. I have run a search for "draft" to browse the forums. With that out of the way, this looked like the best thread to post in.

I just started a new league and am in the 2nd year (2004). The draft came up on June 1 with absolutely NO ONE to draft.

Did you happen to switch from an off-season draft to the June draft recently? The reason I mention it is that the rookies only get generated once per year, so if you switch after an off-season rookie draft is complete, there won't be any available for the draft in June.

Just my $0.02

I find that I have FAR, FAR MORE quality pitching prospects in every draft versus batting prospects. I find in a 30-team league I can still draft a potential number-one starter in the third round or possibly later. By the third round, the hitters aren't even qualified to play T-ball.
