The latest Week 9 posts were sent on August 7 (or 9th, I think). At the risk of being a newbie, minority dissenter, I am proposing we give Scot a break. I am assuming that some of you have been in PM mode with Scot. Who knows what has happened?

Personally, I've had a $27 million IT contract get fouled up in the last 4 days. The repurcussions? I could lose my job, or be transferred, and we in the feds miss on doing something that would be of value! I can always retire, but Medicare in the USA will lose a great opportunity to combat fraud.

I am voting, strongly, against an 8/20 decision date. There is more time. Scot is a good man. Until I know more, I am voting for him!

Take your best shots, guys. I've been hammered at the last 4 days, and am still standing (tomorrow could be a different story). I stand behind Scot.

Mike, I'm sorry to hear about what has transpired for you in the last week, and I certainly hope you do not lose your job. As for the UTBA, I am kind of glad nothing was posted this week, as I had a birthday, and didn't want to take a beating this week anyway.

Hey Greg,

I'll keep my job (worst that could happen is that I retire in 4 months), but may well be transferred from the place I'm in, where I've been for almost 16 years. I'm being forced out, after 35+ years, because another component needs another IT guy, and my boss sees me as the convenient person (the other component also wants me, for some reason). At least 11 of the 16 people that work for me will be sad to see me go. But not my deputy, who wants to kill this $27 million project because she can't get along with some folks.

Happy Birthday, and how many is it (I'm 59, and looking forward to 60 on 3/1/2009)? You could benefit most from Week 9 being started over, as those dang Haymakers might not whomp you so much!

Thanks again for the kind words. I try to do my best as a civil servant. I believe in saving the taxpayers' money, and doing the right thing. I stew and can't sleep when politics, or vanity, rule over a logical decision.
But I'll keep on punchin'!

It's not a vote against or for Scot .... just to move on with this league. There were guidelines set in place to avoid this happening again. I'm 100% sure there is a legit reason on why he hasn't been around, but it should never take a month to finish a game week.

In no way is my vote to move forward a jab at Scot. He has been wonderful as commisioner and I know the kind of work and dedication that this involves. I know that I could not do what he has been able to do as far as running the league and keeping up with everything. I am not saying that we should replace him or ripping him in any way, just that it has been quite a while and he seems to be a very busy man. Thus,I think that is why we have the backup plan in place and I am simply saying that when there is a notable delay we should use it. In no way am I suggesting replacing Scot or complaining about the way things are done. I consider Scot a good friend who has helped me out many times and I hope he stays commish as long as there is a UTBA. I just think that until he gets some free to get back in the groove maybe the back up plan would not be a bad idea. I cant speak for him but maybe he is getting tired of all the work and that would certainly be understandable. I just wanted to make it clear that in no way am I ripping Scot..just would like to get on with the season. Take care fellas.

Sorry to hear of your difficulties Mike. I too say wait it out for Scot, he'll be back at some point. Maybe if things are tough on him, he can finish the current week and hand it over to Dave for a bit but I'd like to wait. No hurry.

couldn't say it better myself ... seriously can't say it better because I always sound like an a-hole

Also I skipped over the important parts of Mike's post ... sorry to hear about the job, hop it all works out ... worst case you can always go find the gin joint that the Binks went to after the loss to the Haymakers!

I think I had too much firewater in me this past weekend, and let too much stress over work influence my posting. This is a great community! Hugh did say it so very well. Sometimes life's events can overtake us! If we do have to replay Week 9, maybe my Binks will triumph over the Diggstown lads (dream on, Mikey)!

And thanks for your kind words, Mike H! I still do and will have a job. I just like to do it as best I can! That is why I became a civil servant. I stand up for what I believe in, and have taken the hit to protect some of the gang who work for me. I took a half day off today to play golf (my boss actually encouraged me to take off, hmm), and shot a 102 (no birdies, but just missed hitting a groundhog), my best round of the year. Tomorrow I'll find out what happened on D-Day Monday. I am hoping and praying that somehow our big project can be salvaged.

The Binks are rested, I did find their gin joint, and hopefully Week 9 will soon be concluded! My guys are ready for the playoffs - we have bought tickets to almost every city so we can watch them!

UTBA-II All-Star Match

I was holding off on posting this unitl after the conclusion of Week 9, but since we seem to be in an extended league hiatus, I'll put it out now.

In UTBA-I, Romy suggested that we run a Gold vs. Silver Conference exhibition All-Star match. Exhibition basically means that once the fighters are selected, the match will be run but w/o the records being saved to the DB - therefore the additional 2 bouts per fighter would not count towards their aging.

In UTBA-I, I posted possible candidates for each weight class for a per-Conference vote. All fighters with a winning record were eligible. For UTBA-II, I had discussed w/ SAL to limit the number of candidates based on the fighters' records at the end of Week 9. The only main criteria I used was that a fighter needed to have a cumulative record of +5 victories over .500.

Since all of the Gold bouts were run for Week 9, I have already put together the candidates. Each weight class had between 4 and 8 candidates. As for the Silver, I put together a list for all teams that completed Week 9 bouts - leaving just 4 not complete.

I was going to suggest that, once posted, each team manager would vote via PM for 2 fighters per weight class to SAL. Since he is currently unavailable, I suggest that we move ahead with the All-Star balloting and match anyways.

I can re-adjust the candidate list to cover only the records of fighters after Week 8 and reduce the criteria to +4 over .500. I would be willing to tabulate the results if everyone would PM their choices to me.

I am currently at work tonight (OT) and will not be able to post anything until tomorrow night.

Let me know what you guys think...

Well, my only suggestion would be that we just have the Gold All Stars head over to Hebron but I guess your idea works too Dave.

A little all star voting would be a great way to fill the gap for everyone itching to do something. Many thanks for offering to do that for us.

More info on the All-Star balloting...

When the candidates are posted, the following information will be included:
  • Overall fighter record
  • Record vs. other conference
  • Total individual points accumulated
  • VI (Value Index) = Total Points divided by Fighter rating
That should give everyone enough to chew on in order to make a fair assessment of the candidates.

Of course, feel free to be a HOMER and vote for anyone you wish (including write-ins if you feel strongly enough about a fighter left off the ballot)

That suck about everything happening at work Mike and hopefully it all works out there for you.

As for the starting week 9 over thing I don't think it is really fair to all the teams that have had match just to redo everything since it could have a big impact on playoff races. People want to get this started again until SAL comes back I got an idea. How about if instead of rerunning the week the matches SAL posted remain official and Dave just quickly sim through those matches so the fighters get their bouts for aging purposes. Then he can run and post the two matches we're missing for week 9 and we can move with the season. Finally, we can just edit the fighter's record and history to reflect what SAL posted which I can do since I have a ton of free time since I'm done with school and haven't been able to find a job yet.

While I agree that we could run the remaining 2 matches and post the result and then just modify the fighter records in the main DB, I really think we should just wait. First of all, there is a good chance that Scot already ran the matches, but just did not have time to post the results.

Also, by just modifying the fighter records can be done, there really isn't a way to add in the other stats such as # of rounds fought, and knockdowns. While these stats really have no bearing on the season, I enjoy compiling these stats and posting stuff like:

Most rounds fought
Best & Worst Chins
Most knockdowns per weight class

Let's just wait around a bit longer and fill the time with the All-Star match.

Romy, once I post the list of candidates, would you be willing to compile the results and run the exhibition match like you did in UTBA-I? If not, I can do it...

Yeah, I have no problems handling the All-Star match. SAL and I talked about it earlier and I agree to do both the All-Star match and the PfP tournament so no problems.

Seeing as you gave me all your draft choices you could have at least slacked a bit . Oh yea,I think the All-star match is a good idea and a good way to keep everyone interested until the commish returns from his haitus. Peace fellas.
