Error Message loading league

<TABLE class=tborder id=post2563328 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=6 width="100%" align=center border=0><TBODY><TR vAlign=top><TD class=alt1 id=td_post_2563328 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #cea98d 1px solid">While attempting to load my saved game, I get a message that says, "DATABASE:: load_database - could not load players file". Then when I click okay it tells me the file is either corrupt or a save-game from an old version. It is not from an old version so I suspect the file got corrupted. What can I do, if anything to get back into this league? Thanks for the help.

This is a solo league, and not an online one I assume.

Do other leagues load up just fine? If so, then yes, your players.dat file appears to have been corrupted. Did you save any backups?

I just checked and another league loaded. It is a solo league.

I have an automatic file back-up that I do to an external hard-drive. Would this suffice? If so, what would my procedure be for recovering the game from before its last save?

Also, any thoughts on how the file became corrupted so that I can avoid this from occurring?

I have had that one a couple times also, it was a league killer for me so I just started a new one. I play mainly Historical so nothing fancy in my set up. It is a random one however at the time I didn't have a back up. Now I backup every couple hours... I actually put in the wrong quote I meant your first quote about corrupt data base.

So where do you back up the data?

Thanks.

How about recovering my data file from a prior back-up on my external hard-drive. Can this be done? If so, how? Not really sure how I would replace the corrupted file with the old file. Thanks to everyone for their input.

Depending upon just how old the backup is, you could try making a copy of the players.dat file in your corrupted league and replacing it with your backed up version of the file. It might work.

What did you do to create the backup? Make a copy of the entire .lg folder and all of the folders therein? If so (and the above didn't work), I would move your current (corrupted) league file out of your saved_games folder and move the copy in its place.

Okay. I think there are individual files inthe back-up, but I do not know.

I am very unskilled at computer stuffs. How would I go about copying and replacing the file or the league.

You have been a tremendous help. It is greatly appreciated.

First check and see if all of the files that are in your saves folder now match the files in the backup lg folder. Should be if you did it from within the game. If they match, in other words if all of the same files are in your backup as it is in the saved game then delete the saved game files (don't delete the folder holding these files in the saved lg folder) then just copy the files that are in the backup on your other harddrive into that now empty folder. I can't remember right off hand what folder the backup files are held in nor the name but don't copy the entire folder into the now empty folder. Just copy and paste all of the files within that folder into that saved game folder. Again, make sure you are not putting another saved folder into the empty saved folder, just the files and folders within that backup saved folder.
This is probably a little difficult to understand if you don't know much about computers but I hope you can. If you have any questions about the above, don't hesitate to ask and I will try to explain it a little better. It is not a hard thing to do but I guess it could be for someone not familiar with the process of copying files.
By the way, do not move the files from you backup folder, just copy them. That way you will still have that backup available if you make a mistake.

Anyway, hope that helps and good luck with it.
