Some comments and Questions

Haven't played OOTP since OOTP3 so I 'm considering myself somewhat of a newbie. Changes in life limit the amount of time I can spend playing so when I skimmed the rules I may have missed some of the things I have questions about.

First of all I love the ball animation. That said, I have to say I enjoyed the interface from OOTP 3 much better. Everything seemed much easier to access and control. Even the newspaper style reports seemed more enjoyable in #3. I stopped playing for a few weeks and I can't even remember where I access my minor league reports that suggest who should be promoted /demoted.

I tried to jump right in as manager and gm of the 2008 Orioles. Left everything at default. Didn't expect much by way of results but team started off horribly (2-12) and all players were underacheiving. I went into the roster and realized that the players were all exhasuted and needed rest. I made adjustments for platooning, depth chart, etc. And boom! The Orioles end up with 100 wins and with 5 starting pitchers under 3.75 ERA. Only made 2 minor trades so this didn't make sense.
Then I noticed there were no other trades all year long in the league.
Josh Beckett , who starts the year on the DL for Boston, never gets activated. Clearly I have missed some steps but I 'm not sure what.

Also I get the idea of ghost players in the minor leagues but how is it handled when you have say 8 starting pitchers at AAA. Will they all get starts evenly, every 8 days, or just the top 5?

Thanks,

Shawn

You probably did not enable all teams to be computer controlled. What you want to do is...

Game dropdown menu > Game Setup > League Setup and then scroll down. You want to set all teams to being computer controlled, then select AI teams to allow AI roster changes. You probably want to run computer manager on all teams while you're there, as well. Then go grab your team and take it from there.

In the case of the Triple-A pitchers, the top five will get regular rotation spots. One or two might get spot starts, the rest will wind up in the bullpen.

Thanks for your help. If I set all teams to computer controlled, then how to I reclaim my team?

...and more importantly, how the heck do I delete the current season? Under game I see:
Load game
Create game
Save game
Game setup
When I go into game setup all I see is the opportunity do delete the leagues at each level. I just want to delete the whole season on all levels.
I'll try to comb thru the manual ...

When you go to the Load Game screen, you have the option of deleting a league. That will delete the entire league, you can't just delete one season.

Once you set all the teams to computer controlled, go to Manager > Available Jobs and pick your team.

yes...that's what I meant, one league. Or as it says in the manual , a game. Interestingly, I did just that but the names of the leagues still appear even after I delete them. There is no data in them as I tried running one afterwards to no effect. I closed out the game and restarted but thsoe league names are still there. AND... I wasn't given the option of deleting the game that I mentioned above. I played one full regular season with that an am currently in the playoffs and it won't give me the option of deleting it. Strange.
Thanks again for your help

You probably can't delete since you're currently running it. Start your new game, then go back and delete the old one.

I'll try that. Still odd that the other games are still listed as well when I go to "load game". If I actually try to load one of those games the I get a database error message. But the game name still appears. I thought I read that I could just delete the games from the OOTP9 Data folder but ther is no game data that I can see there.

The OOTP9 data folder is not under Program Files. In Windows you need to go to My Documents > OOTP Developments > OOTP9 > saved_games and delete the .lg file there.

You're getting the database error because the .lg file information is deleted but for whatever reason the game isn't removing the folder.
