Brett Favre Saga

This is ridiculous. I did think of an interesting event though. What would happen if Favre were traded to the Vikings and then retired before the season started. Would Green Bay be forced to give up the compensation they received in return? Wouldn't that be the ultimate soap opera if this was all an act to have the Vikings give up players/picks and then Favre retires on them and takes the money for marketing from Green Bay.

LOL.

1) Favre isn't that smart.
2) The circus and soap opera isn't anywhere NEAR what they would gain.
3) The media would have a field day with this.
4) Goodell would immediately step in.
5) The NFL would be a laughing stock of sports.

Never in a million years would something like that happen.

Would make for good TV though.

Regardless of where Favre ends up (unless he is starting), Packer fans will be very, very upset. While Viking fans will only be disappointed if this doesn't continue .

The 3 best options that I can think of:
1) Favre starts for MN.
2) Favre drags this out.
3) Favre is backup

Favre to the Raiders. He fits Al Davis' style of hiring old QBs. Hahahaha. Not that it would happen, but it'd give JaMarcus another year of quality training.

My guess is that Favre will either be a starter in GB or traded to a team willing to start him. No way he serves as a backup to Rodgers. Even if he started in such a position (as a backup, I would give Rodgers one or two weeks (short leash), before passing the baton back to Favre.

Looks like he's on his way to Tampa Bay . If it wasn't for a first round pick, I'd urge the Vikes to try and get Tampa to flip him over.

The guy is kicking an all-time great QB who was second in MVP voting last year to the curb. I think the phrase you're looking for is "even more foolish".

A great point that ESPN brought up...

Barry Sanders retires. A couple months later decides he still wants to play. Does Detroit say, "sorry, we've moved on"? HELL NO!

Another silly comparison...but still just as absurd...

If the Vikings released Adrian Peterson (no real reason, just...released him), any team would be happy to sign him and be the starter from the very beginning.

I honestly don't get it. You start the best that you have available. Is it different for a QB? I suppose a little bit, but still...you have a future HOFer and one of the best QBs to play the game in Brett Favre. You do what you have to do to start the guy.

This whole things is a boor. Both the Packers and Favre are idiots who handled the situation like a couple of high school boys fighting over some air-head cheerleader. I'll be happy when it's over and I never have to hear anything about it again.

Cause you know that'll happen.

Packers are MNF against the Vikings on week one. If the Packers start out 0-? to start the season, you'll hear about it. If the Bucs start Favre and the Bucks start ?-0, you'll hear it.

This won't stop.

Brett Farve has exactly the same amount of Super Bowl wins as Eli Manning and just one more Super Bowl appearance than Rex Grossman but if you listened only to ESPN you'd think he won 6 or 7. I'm so tired of this story, and even more disgusted with ESPN's ass-kissing of all players all the time. You just know some idiot over there is pitching the idea of a Farve reality show.

Yea, because he plays defense and special teams. Championships count (on the individual level) is such a tired argument, especially for team sports where there are 22 starters. Favre is tied w/ the most MVPs ever (3) and was one of the best QBs in the league last year.

Trent Dilfer > Dan Marino

I think individual achievements should matter dependent on the level of talent surrounding a QB. Favre really hasnt been surrounded with a lot of HoF talent like several other top shelf QB's have..

That is still last season, how do we know he's done any training in the off season, for all we know he could have been sitting on lakes fishing and eating chips.

Has he yet to pass his physical, or done the running test?

At least we know Rogers is in shape and prepared to be an NFL QB.

He passed a physical before the Packers added him to the roster.

In other news, SI.com is reporting that the Jets and Bucs are in a bidding war for him.

But yet McCarthy is quick to say that he has a lower abdominal strain. I thought that was pretty classless.

When you make an important decision, and you go public with it, and it affects other people, you must stick by it, even if it hurts.
