Anyone playing OOTP9 on a linux notebook?

Has anyone had luck with OOTP9 running on Ubuntu Hardy Heron (linux) and laptop equipped with the Intel X3100 graphic card?

Though this is not a nVidia graphic card, I have read that this graphic card can still display the Compiz desktop effects with the latest Linux updates.

I am thinking about purchasing a Lenovo R61i laptop with this graphic card and installing Hardy Heron (and wine). Since OOTP 9 is the only game I want to run on this laptop, I can save about $200 by getting a laptop without a nVidia card.

BTW, I already have OOTP 9 running on my Ubuntu desktop with a nVidia card. I haven't tested the FTP exports yet.

So, my question again (reworded): Anyone have success running OOTP 9 on a Linux notebook with a Intel X3100 graphic card?

If the import / export deal is fixed in v9, I am going to buy a linux laptop as well.

According to this link, that chip does have a video driver available.

There seems to be a lot of info on the ubuntuforums.com site if you want to search that.

Hope that helps!

I cannot confirm that the export/ftp works under OOTP 9 with linux. The league I am in has made the switch from version 8 to 9 yet.

I should point out that even if exports do work in OOTP 9, it may be because our league commissioner hosts his own linux server. In the past, while using version 7 of the game, I was able to export from linux and the commissioner never complained or never had a problem. In version 8, I had to use windows with the game as there were other problems with the game using linux.

I am officially confirming that the in-game exports worked using version 9, Ubuntu 8.04, and whatever wine version is currently in the ubuntu repositories.

No problems at all!

Scotty, that's good to hear. My league will be moving to version 9 next week. I will share the results here as well.

My league finally switched to OOTP 9 and I have also just purchased an Lenovo R61 Thinkpad and happy report that OOTP 9 is working great. The league commissioner has also confirmed he is not having any problems (thus far, we are still in the off season).

Only slight hiccup was the screen resolution is almost too small. Initially, the game screen was partly hidden behind the top and bottom panels. I was able to change the properties of the top panel and bottom panel to allow sliding out of the way. No the game fits perfectly on the screen.

That's good to hear - one less reason to boot into Windows. That just leaves my scanner, which the sane/genesys guys are working on...
