I'm not sure either, but if you "delete all evidence of OOTP", that means you are going to delete the receipt.txt along with the other elicense files, and then I'm pretty the reinstalled game will ask you to enter your purchase code again and re-license. Now, whether elicense keeps track of ISP addresses and "remembers" this was the same computer, I can't say. I do know I would be safe and go ahead and unlicense it first.

I know I've done uninstalls and resinstalls before and you don't need to relicense then, but an uninstall leaves the license stuff on the hard drive, so I'm pretty sure this is why you don't have to relicense.

I would hate to lose that second license myself, because I just learned first hand that situations change. I only ever used one before, but recently purchased a new laptop in addition to my old desktop, and found I used two for both OOTP and TBCB.

Orwell, I've been trying to contact you via PM to help with your crashes. Can you please contact me?

I just PM'd you.

Update - totally uninstalled and reinstalled. This time I noticed I had missed a data file on my D drive that remained intact with my prior uninstalls so I was quite hopeful. I simmed out about a month with no crashes, was about to try to play a game out but made some trades first and some callups and then it crashed when I tried to save. Seems my crashes are all related to advancing a day after playing one out or trying to save after restructuring my organization.

Well, I'm a complete idiot when it comes to computers (and most other things too), but if I had a few buck to bet, I'd bet the problem is somehow related to the fact that you're install directory is on a drive other than C.

This game reads/writes so often that maybe, just maybe, theres one read/write instruction deep in the code somewhere that is causing your problems. I dunno, but this really sounds like at least the first area to look at.

Is there anyway possible for you to copy, say 2 or 3GB worth of stuff off the C drive onto the D drive, then do a fresh install on the C drive and see if the issues are still present??? At the very least this could rule OUT an area to consider, yes??

Now, being a complete idiot on all things computer, I'll probably get corrected on why this is/was silly advice, but thats good too (for me at least, not you, as I will have learned something while you'll still have the problem) But, at the very least you'll have to admit its at least something to try until Markus figures this out.

I've got Orwell running on a pre-release of the next patch right now, to see if we can figure this stuff out.

FWIW, I run the game on my d:\ drive and have NEVER had it crash with the release version of the game!

Frankly, the problem is likely to be some combination of code and PC environment. Unfortunately, these sporadic things that don't replicate on other systems are often nearly impossible to track down. Hopefully some of the fixes Markus put in will help Orwell get a better experience.

Well, that blows my theories away. I knew I should've kept my uneducated guesses to myself. Sorry about that.

I'm the one that thought of uninstall/reinstall, adn seemed everyone took it form there. gosh I feel smart.

Anyways, Steve, do you run the game on your d:/ drive only? or do you have the other half installed on your C:/ drive as well? I'm pretty sure I saw two seperate directories the game installs to automaticall.

Reason I ask, is cuz maybe you have it all completely installed on your D. Maybe Orwell has it installed on C, and the files his game tries to look at are on D

Dunno, just thought....

Quick update - I have played out about a month between the beta patch and now the new one and so far, so good. I have tried the usual things that triggered crashes - roster moves and actually playing out games and then trying to advance a day, and there have been no crashes yet. Keeping my fingers crossed and I'll let you know if there are any issues.

Thanks for the patch - I hope this makes a big improvement for everyone who's had crash issues.

It's a small sample size so far, so I don't want to get my hopes up too much, but so far so good. Now if the patch could figure out a way to get "Dunner" to hit two grand slams in one game again ...

Orwell, please post as much detail as possible about this latest crash here:

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...available.html

That's where markus will be going tomorrow morning to get feedback!

Thanks!

I have added the info there. Unfortunately, still frequent crashes. I guess it could be time to give up.

Sorry for all the trouble you're having.

I'm just going to throw this out there, you've probably already done this.

Defrag your hard drive. If if doesn't help OOTP, at least it will speed the rest of your computer up.

Thanks. Yeah I use Disk Keeper so it should be defragged constantly

I just uninstalled the entire game again, trying to eradicate every trace of it. In the process, I accidentally destroyed my old OOTP 2007 game, which was the only stable version I have. Looks like I won't be playing any OOTP for awhile unless a miracle happens with this version.

Another update, I'll put it in the patch thread also.

Uninstalled the game. Reinstalled it, this time all on C drive. Replaced the .exe with the patch. Quick started with MLB rosters (using the new patch of course).

Quickly simmed a few weeks. Did one trade, a few moves, made it to first new injury. Put him on 15-day DL. Called up an AAA replacement. Tried to continue simming, game crashed.

I still can't find a pattern but it seems callups have an enormous chance of causing crashes.

WIERD! I was trying to find SOMETHING on the internet that may be causing problems with your system set-up while trying to run this game. The only thing I was able to come up with was aleady covered in this thread. There have been many other threads throughout interwebz land in which people have suggested to others about uninstall/reinstall. Turn off anit-virus. disk defreg, messing with allowing ports on your firewall (that had to do with steam though, shouldn't have anything to do with a localized solo game).

The only other thing that I found in another forum that someone said they had to do with a completely different game was do a fresh windows reinstall. When was the last time you reinstalled windows? I generally do a re-install about once or twice a year.

Thanks for checking.

I've never reinstalled Windows in fact I don't think I even have a disk (it is a legal copy, it came installed I ordered the PC from Dell, maybe I lost it).

What I really would like is a brand new PC, but really my PC is stable. I run FSX (albeit with fairly crap frame rates) and Oblivion runs really nicely on it, as well as CIV IV, another memory hog. Not that that has anything to do with OOTP, but my PC never crashes during any other apps.

Nah. If he was running Call of Duty 4 or Crysis, then I might be impressed.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

Actually, I run Call of Duty IV also, and it runs as smooth as glass, smoother than Oblivion, which surprises me.

Also, there is no more abusive hog than FSX, in my experience, although I struggle with frame rates on that one.

Anyway, the point is my system is stable, I'm not the fat guy in the annoying Mac commercials, is what I'm trying to say, I guess.
