Manny Heads to the Dodgers

According to ESPN

Quote:
Manny Ramirez's stormy relationship with the Boston Red Sox appears to be over.

A baseball source has confirmed Ramirez has been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, ESPN.com has learned.

Jason Bay is going to Boston as part of the deal, SI.com reported. And the Pirates get four minor leaguers as part of the three-way deal.

Pittsburgh gets Craign Hansen and Brandon Moss, both from Boston, as well as third baseman Andy LaRoche and right-handed pitcher Bryan Morris from the Dodgers.

If the Red Sox don't get anything else in this trade, I'm going to be really disappointed.

Typical modern Dodger move: They pay $0 of Manny's salary this season and he becomes a free agent at the end of the season. Id say the odds are pretty long that they resign him.

Sox give up two prospects and Manny for Bay, basically. What's the thinking on the Sox part? Why not just let him play out the contract and let him go at the end of the season?

Pirates get four prospects for Bay.

Dodgers give up two prospects for Manny.

What must Manny be thinking about being traded to a .500 club at best (albeit in a division where .500 may be good enough to make the postseason)?

what must Joe Torre be thinkig about the season for his club being centered around a notorious head-case like Manny?

Because Manny had made it clear that he wanted a trade to happen and the Sox feared that if he didn't get his way he would just quit playing like he has done in the past. The other Sox players were fed uo with his act, evidence no one coming to his defence anymore. Sox knew they could not make a run with Manny being a distraction.

Could you give me a reminder of which season(s) he's done that during?

What is Jason Bay -- chopped liver?

How do the Rays feel about not having been able to make a move?

2006. After the Sox were swept by the Yankees in August he disappeared onto the DL for the rest of the season. It's been rumored strongly since then that he basically decided to sit and was as healthy as most players are at that time of year.

I am a huge Red Sox fan and watch most every game. Up until this most recent episode I have loved Manny but sometimes you just have to say enough already.

This year when he clearly sent a message to the Sox by taking 3 staight strikes from Rivera. The Manny apologistist will tell you in one breath that Manny is one of the great all time hitters(which I believe he is) and then in the next tell you that Rivera just overpowered him. But there is a difference in being overpowered and not even having any intention of swinging.

The knee this year that triggered this whole debacle. People will say that you can't know if he is feeling pain or not which is true but when medical test show no problem and he had not mentioned the problem earlier you have to call him on it. He takes two games off before the Red Sox almost force him into the lineup and note one of those games was against the Yankees. Would Jeter have missed a game for anything less than being at deaths door? I read an article earlier this week which looked at the games Manny has sat out this year and it was always against tough pitchers like missing Chamberlain.

2006 when he took the final two months of the season off complaining of pain in his knee. Again hard to call a guy a liar even though the Sox couldn't medically make a case for him to sit out.

Hopefully they'll hide Andruw Jones far, far away from the baseball diamond, where he's completely clueless.

3 years ago, on these very boards, AJ was being talked about as HoF material.

I mean yeah, they'll extend him, but it's not like they gave up peanuts here.

I don't think Colletti realizes that he can't start six outfielders in each game. It'll be enjoyable to watch the Dodgers suffer with Ramirez and Jones.
