Ken Griffey Jr. To The White Sox?

Fox Sports is saying that Griffey Jr. has been traded to the White Sox pending his approval. FOX Sports on MSN - MLB - Reds, ChiSox agree on Griffey trade, await approval

What position is he going to play? White Sox are set at the corner outfield positions and is he too old/slow for centerfield? What do you do with Swisher then? First Base? Does that mean Konerko is gone?

This raises so many questions. Plus no one knows what the Sox have given up to get him either.

If this is true, I am hoping this means something is in the works to dump Konerko and move Swisher to 1st.

Yeah, I just don't see how this trade makes any sense barring something being done with either Konerko or Thome (preferably Konerko).

I wouldn't be opposed to that one bit. They played their best ball this year when Konerko wasn't in the lineup.

How much is left on Thome's contract?

I think this is Thome's last year with a club option for next year.

Depends on if Thome reaches enough PAs this year.

Thome has a $13m option for next year, which becomes guaranteed if he combines for 1100 PAs between 2007 and 2008 - he is currently at 931, so him reaching that 1100 mark is certainly within reason, unless he gets hurt.

Not sure if any of the money the Phils included in the deal count towards the option, or just the $3m buyout.

I hope that Griffey doesn't approve this deal, and the Mariners get a chance to get him

Fox Sports is reporting that this is a done deal although there is still no mention of what the White Sox had to give up for him.

FOX Sports on MSN - Ken Rosenthal - Griffey accepts trade to White Sox

CBS Sportsline is reporting that the White Sox give up Danny Richar and Nick Masset. Also it looks like the Reds will pay the rest of Griffey's contract.

Griffey going to White Sox if he approves trade from Reds - MLB - CBSSports.com Live Scores, Stats, Schedules

I'm having childhood flashbacks to '59 when we picked up Big Klu for the pennant run.

I'm having flashbacks to '03 and '04 when we picked up Roberto Alomar for the pennant run.

Yeah, but I think Griffey has a lot more left in the tank then Alomar had. Plus, he's been hot lately and hopefully a change of scenery will do him well. I really don't think they give up that much for him at all. Masset is an okay player and I don't think Richar will really turn out to be much. I'm just curious if there is another move coming today because we definitely have a bit of a logjam now.

Since Griffey is coming off his best month of the season, I'm hoping that his coming to a World Series contender will give him that extra spark for a couple of months. With Konerko looking like he's gone doen the toilet Griffey should help. I am a bit concerned about possible defensive problems, but I think he can give us Big Klu' like help for a few months down the stretch and into the playoffs.
Richar, may be a prospect, but he hasn't done anything to make me forget Marv Stahle yet and Masset wasn't exactly irreplaceble.

I'm excited about this trade. Richar and Masset never impressed me and I think Griffey can provide a real spark for us. Wish we'd picked up some more pitching help, though...
