Update

For what it's worth, now I really have given up (yeah, the original "last straw" was not really the last one, I still had some griping to do.

Now, though, I've tried everything, disabling Norton, letting the PC take over for several months, all kinds of permutations related to how I would attempt to sim out games, I even destroyed that magical universe in which Adam done went 2 for 2 with two grand slams and played with 100% fictional players. The game remains totally unplayable, at least for me.

For the heck of it, I fired up the OOTP 2007, worked fine as always, no crashes. Unfortunately for me, I rather got hooked on the simplified scouting in the new version.

Hoping for a patch that makes it playable.

Markus is hard at work right now (well, not LITERALLY right now), focused exclusively on crashes like the ones you are experiencing. Again, if you don't already, please make sure you have a thread in tech support about your crashes...

I hope we can resolve this for you.

I remember when sound was first implemented in the series, there were always crashes at the very end of games when you go to proceed to the next day. ootp 9 has sound once again, and those same crashes are back....

Is that just coincidence ro what?

That was also when I learned to immediately save my game at the end of playing games out. particularly my more favorite games. I've done that for the past 500 games i played out in 2007., even though I haven't seen a crash since, except when I tried to change number of draft rounds in the middle of a draft in my test league in 9.

I haven't tried turning sound off, but I will. The last version that had sound, I used it without issues.

The ironic thing was I WAS saving immediately after a played out game (at least I won, haha). That's what I did with the game that started this thread (it crashed during the save), and what got me so mad, because it was one of those "once in a lifetime" games, all Dunn jokes aside (some might say once in a millennium since he didn't strike out).

Anyway, of course I love the game. I've just been negative lately because it doesn't work.

Oh. That happened to me in 2007 once, the game crashing while saving....actually, I used to get crashes quite a bit with ootp 2007 there for a while. I uninstalled/unlicensed the game, completely deleted every single file I had on my PC [transfering my fav league file of course], reinstalled/relicensed, and never had a problem with it since. Still have no idea whtat the hell happened, but hye, at least it worked! right?

maybe if you try that it might work?

If this next patch doesn't, maybe I'll try. I did an uninstall/reinstall, but not to that degree (didn't unlicense, not sure how to do that or how to get a new license) and I didn't go in an delete files manually.

I did the same thing. After the first patch I was crashing at the end of almost every game I played out. I wiped all evidence of OOTP 9 off my computer and started fresh and it's been stable as can be since.

So you do an uninstall, then manually delete any remaining folders? Does that include the stuff under application data in the "documents" folder? Also, are you able to reuse the license number when you install again from scratch?

Yes to both. I uninstalled, deleted the folder in my programs, and deleted the one in my documents. Then I reinstalled and yes you can use the same code, you just have to reinput it.

Not to overstate the obvious, but if you go this route make sure you unlicense it first. Otherwise, I think when you reinstall and re-license, you will be using your second license up.

Dumb question, but I don't have access to the game here - how do you unlicense it?

You can do an un-install without without touching your license.

I'm not sure but isn't the license per computer. I'm pretty sure in the course of the year I do a re-install more than two times and I have never had to license it. I would love some clarity on this also. Thanks

I think there's an icon in your ootp folder to unlicense.

But yeah, comletely get rid of ALL evidence of ootp, including the install file. either re-d/l the install file, or if you have a hard copy of it on cd, just use that, and just start 100% fresh.

Oh, and DO NOT change the default directory either. leave the default the default. dunno if that has anything to do with, but I do know it installs in 2 different places, one in My Documents, and one in Program Files. The one in My Documents is where all the mod files go, and the one in Program Files are generally the stuff you don't wanna mess with a while lot

Sim City 4 does the same thing. I changed the default directory, and kept getting crashes (especially after I d/l a bunch of mods) I think the computer was trying to look for the mods in the directory where it was SUPPSOSED to be, I have no idea, I'm only speculating at this point. Anyway deleted everything, and just put the game in the default directories and it works fine.

With ootp, I never changed the directories, even the first time through, so I still don't know what happened with my first install on that game. All I know is that it works now the way it's supposed to

Again, I'm only speculating, but it's defintilly wort a shot.

I didn't have to unlicense or worry about it. If you delete all the folders you will have to enter in your receipt number again though.

Crap, I have to change the default directory because my D drive is huge and my C drive is almost out of space. No choice there, but I'll try everything else (complete cleanout of OOTP and reinstall).

FYI I used two drives on last version, zero problems.
