I'll go out on a limb and say Ray Durham.

The brewers only glaring weak spot was 2nd base so this is a big addition.

In the sense that it cost them basically nothing and Weeks is all of a sudden terrible, yeah.

Barry Bonds at DH. Oh wait, the Brewers are an NL team. Forgot about that. Nevermind.

The Brewers look unbeatable at the moment, but I realize that won't last. Still, it really anonyed me to see a column at SI.com that claimed they had "no chance" of catching the Cubs and that there were 3 teams in the NL East that were better than the Brewers. Have those guys even looked at the season records recently? |

Well, my loyalties are kind of divided, because I grew up in Evanston watching the Cubbies on WGN. But I've lived here in Madison for the past 20 years, so suffering with the Brewers is nothing new to me. This new owner of the Brewers has really made a difference. He's injected an entirely new attitude into the organization. |

The thing about it is, a lot of the older Brewers fans were actually Cubs fans in the 60's after the Braves left.

But what I find interesting is how this Brewers-Cubs rivalry plays into the larger status of the state of Wisconsin as basically a reasonably attractive third-world vacation destination for Chicagoans. My wife and I spent a few days in Door County last week and it was amusing to see everyone walking around either with Cubs or Bears tee shirts or Packers and Brewers tees. You almost got the feeling that given half a chance they'd square off in a rumble or something, a la West Side Story! Last edited by thbroman; 07-24-2008 at 11:46 AM. |

Brewers? Aren't they that team that used to be owned by the commissioner that has sucked for like the last 25 years or so?

They're the team that used to be in the American League, and used to be the Seattle Pilots. Nobody remembers the Pilots, even in Seattle.
