It's very stupid, when on one day they present Los Angeles, and the next day Knoxville.

Add this to the list of lame stuff ESPN has created over the years. Remember the "Who's Now" segments and the mock press conferences when Steve Phillips pretended to be the GM of MLB teams? And don't get me started with the ESPY's. I almost miss the days its looked like Bob Ley and George Grande were doing highlights from someone's basement.

espn sportscenter was better when Dan Patrick & Keith Olbermann were anchors.
Then along came Stuart Scott & that was pretty much the end of my watching espn everynight. Rarely even worth watching for the highlights
anymore.

Everyone knows it's Boston anyway, so why is there a debate

I think New York might have Boston beat a little bit in the pro-sports titles.

I'm by no means a fan, but a good argument can be made for Fayetteville, Arkansas

UCLA is the Title King/Queen and the 1st to win 100, 101, 102 etc championships. Add to that those rich spoiled stupid underachievers over at USC and there isnt a city in the USA that has won even close to half the Championships that Los Angeles has.

I hope the titles are weighted by overall fan interest, for example, all of the Men's Indoor Track titles for Arkansas would equal one professional title. (i.e the super bowl)

Given all the universities in the greater Boston area, you should be embarrassed by the lack of Championships.

Harvard national championships = 138.

Harvard athletic scholarships = 0.

And if you're talking major NCAA DI sports, Boston College is the only school in the greater Boston area to field a full DI sports program. If you want, I'll list the schools that have won championships at the DII and DIII levels if you'd like.

Consider first how many pro teams the New York and Boston greater metro areas have:

Baseball: NY 2, BOS 1
Football: NY 2, BOS 1
Basketball: NY 2, BOS 1
Hockey: NY 3, BOS 1
TOTAL: NY 9, BOS 4

Now, how many championships have been won since January 2002?

Baseball: NY 0, BOS 2
Football: NY 1, BOS 3
Basketball: NY 0, BOS 1
Hockey: NY 1, BOS 0
TOTAL: NY 2, BOS 6

So NY has gotten 2 championships from 9 teams, while Boston has gotten 6 titles from 4 teams, and you say NY has done better?

If you mean "all time" I assume you'll bring up the Yankees. Great history, no doubt: they've won 26 World Series in 105 years (25% of the time). But I'll see you and raise you the Boston Celtics, who have 17 titles in the 59 years of the NBA, or 28% of the time.

All that said, this "Titletown" question is just another lame stunt by ESPN that makes them look foolish. Green Bay has been known as Titletown, it's their nickname, so why insult those nice folks there by trying to steal the nickname and give it to Boston, NY or anyone else? Ridiculous. Green Bay is Titletown to me. Congrats.

Since 2002. Way to pick an arbitrary year. Thanks for complying with the "I've been a Boston sports fan since the Patriots first Super Bowl win!" stereotype.

Thanks for complying with the "I'm not from Boston and jealous as heck!" stereotype. (and I'm 45 and been a long-suffering/celebrating fan of the Celts, Sox and Pats since I was a baby)

And thanks also for completely ignoring that I complimented Green Bay - not Boston - as the true Titletown.

Why? I'm sure to the fans in Arkansas those titles mean just as much as the Giants winning the Super Bowl does to New York. In fact I'd wager it means more to a town like Fayetteville because I'd bet by a wide margin a larger percent of the populace in Fayetteville supports their indoor track team than the percentage of residents of New York City. There is a great deal more passion for the local team in small towns than in big cities.

Point taken. Let me re-phrase my hope.

I hope that there is a Titletown and Titletown AA. Titletown AA can be for all of those Arkansas towns where the fans of the local Men's track teams watch their teams' championship runs (no pun intended) on statewide TV.

Do you know that ESPN is looking at all of sports history to determine this? It's not called Titletown since 2002.
