Uniforms

This question just popped into my head, I don't really care what the answer is as I don't mind how it works but I'm curious so I'm going to ask,

How come we only get one uniform for both home and away? Is it because they are only used for the photos and nothing else?(as I would assume)

Well, FaceGen was introduced only in OOTP 2007, so it's still rather new to the game. The designers did a good job incorporating it, but made provision for only one picture per player. On the one hand it's thought of as a personnel file photo, not an in-game picture, although on the other hand they are used in the Broadcast screen and everybody is in home uniform which is strange when you think about it.

I think the reasons for this are two-fold. One, it would be a big programming job for the game to have two pictures for each player, to be changed according to the home/away schedule. Second, doubling the amount of player pictures needed would slow the game down considerably and further inflate the numbers and sizes of files that have to be stored and backed up.

This is not to say that such difficulties will not be addressed in some future version of OOTP, however. Given their ingenuity, I would not be surprised to see this enhancement announced by OOTP someday.

I purely sim the game and it never really bothered me, honestly I never even noticed until you mentioned it.

The one thing that did bother me was that you could not have the photo's transition over time from black and white to color like in real life. My guys from 1900-1950 should probably be in black and white and mid fifties start to move to color photos.

Also it would be cool if you could pick the uniform the player appears in when he is inducted into the Hall of Fame. If he has played for numerous teams.

Sorry for going off topic.

Your game has a league setting where you can define the color mode of FaceGen. You can set it to Sepia, Black and White, or Color. If you want your images to transition over time, simply change this setting when you feel it's time to move to the next color mode. For example, in my historical league, I'm using B&W right now, but will switch to color some time between 1946 and 1950.

Home and away jerseys would be great!

I don't think it would slow the game down if it was done correctly. All it would need is that the home and away pictures have a different name and then the game could ask for the file with the a after the name, or whatever it would be or the home uniform. Don't think that would really be a tough thing to do considering some of the other things that are used in this sim.

Yeah, it would inflate the folder sizes some but if you had a setting where you could use or not use this in your sim, I think it would be fine.
Personally, I would love to see that done. It is done in the real game so why not in this sim? It would be more accurate, anyway.

Interesting, thanks for the heads up. It'd be cool if they could pull it off, but if not, no problem there either, right? Thanks again.

A way to work around the one-jersey-per-player problem is to go into the team setup screen before you play a series and change the team's jerseys. If you have two different looks for home and away jerseys, it's just a matter of having the game pick the other one when the teams move from a home series to an away series (or vice versa). You could even use alternate jerseys for Friday home games or special occasions this way, if you wanted to.

It would be nice if the game did this automatically, but for now the workaround is fairly easy to use.
