That could be argued lol.

i dunno, im no expert or anything, but i can only imagine all the extra coding that would have to go into determining the ratings system between female league, mixed leagues and mens leagues.
Mixed leagues would be more of a problem. Separate women's leagues would pretty much be a repeat of the men's league stuff.

I have two big suggestions for me. Add an "Export in Lahman format" and "Import/Export Retired Players" options to the league data import/export tabs. That would solve a huge issue I'm currently having with a names mod (self inflicted unfortunately).

Before any of that stuff, I'd love to see Winter Leagues work like they do in real life, as well as an easily implemented World Baseball Classic-type league (which I would imagine would work similar to winter leagues).

Yes, that is a good idea.

lol the WBC was practically a miserable failure. noone seemed to even care much about it at all. managers didnt want their players to be playing. seemed to be a lot of problems with that competition IRL.

but it would be fun to see an international competition somewhere along those lines for sure

I am of two minds about the suggestions originally posted by cryomaniac. Personally, I would never use any of them myself, except the customization of suspensions, and because of that I tend to discount their importance. However, one is constantly reminded that this game has a very diverse constituency & it should aim to broaden its appeal outside the US and Canada. For that reason alone, some of these suggestions could be worth implementing.

That being said, my two main issues with the game concern: 1) the definition of pitcher's role and the impossibility of modifying endurance either through aging or training/coaching; and 2) the one previously mentioned by LGO: the absence of a realistic and historically flexible minor-league system. And because these are MY issues, they're obviously of world-shattering importance!

...how do you figure that? It was considered a success by pretty much everyone. Even ESPN was pleasantly surprised by the interest.

Not a really big suggestion, but this is the same that I've made when it was asked for the version 9.

I play almost only historical simulation and what I would like to see is the use of the real manager. It doesn't look right to me when the teams have Japanese or black manager in the sixties (that's why I play with personel turn off). Those informations are already in the Lahman database, so why not using them? Unless it's very hard to code...

I really dont care if women are put into the game. Some women might actually play the game and want a fictional womens league. But i also think it should be one of the last things after everything has been done for version 10 and there is time left over. Otherwise its just something that can wait.
But cant you just change the names to females and height & weight and just
think of them as female. Does it really need to be programmed into the game?
I could see if this was tennis but wasnt the game model after the MLB and not the All-American Women's Baseball League? Not gonna
say its a dumb idea
but if Markus had a list of requested ideas and features about the size "War & Peace", then this would be right before the end.

Minor league baseball is not "real baseball"? So just where do major league teams get their new players from if the minors aren't "real baseball"? So Japanese baseball isn't "real baseball"? So why then are some MLB teams paying a hefty price to acquire Japanese players (some of whom perform very well in MLB) if they don't play "real baseball"? U.S. college baseball isn't "real baseball"? So then, why do major league teams draft college players if they don't play "real baseball"? Why does SABR have research committees which cover Latin America baseball, Asian baseball, and minor league baseball (to name a few) if these areas aren't "real baseball"?

Your narrow mindedness in this regard is remarkable.

It is perfectly acceptable to have a debate over the priority of items to be worked on in OOTP. It is completely foolish to suggest some things aren't "real baseball" when clearly they are.

Exactly. As I said, I see his point about priorities, but the "real baseball" argument is silly.

Proper, historically authentic schedules will help there. You will get them... can't say when exactly, but you will get them.

First question: past or present? There's a huge difference between MLB now and what it used to be, in everything from on-the-field performance to the transaction rules to finances.

Tiebreaking playoff games, for example (an item you rejected as being unworthy of customization in OOTP). The rules around how ties are resolved have changed over the years in MLB. Best-of-three series or one sudden-death game?

I'm all for new features. The way I play the game, it is pretty realistic and I am very happy with the results. I would love to have promotion and relegation in the my personal baseball universe.

That being said, a game has to be build on a solid base. I would rather Markus make "Wolf-baseball" very solid before branching out into European-style leagues. So far I've trusted Markus' ability to keep making the base solid while adding a complement of new features.

So everyone is right!

OOTP must, MUST, MUST break away from the subleague concept as the way of allowing leagues to fully interact. Changing this one thing by implementing league associations will dramatically open up the game for fictional players, and make historical leagues more authentic.

Actually, he does.

The question boils down to one of priorities. I can tell you, however, that new features will always be a part of every OOTP release; it has to, for some very basic and sound economic reasons.

The question, of course, is: will Markus realise this?

European baseball leagues have women? Byes?

In any case, doing relegation is possible right now, and women can be worked around too. MLB rosters can be done by any person willing to do it. Byes, or customizable... there's just no way to do that right now.

I'd hate for OOTP to become an MLB simulator - card games exist for that. The game's deeper, richer than that. The engine's great, and to limit itself to MLB would, in my opinion, make the game weaker. If it wants to keep its "It's your game, play it your way" motto, OOTP has to cater to the customizability crowd and not just the strict MLB-replicating crowd (and, besides, MLB data becomes erroneous the minute you sim a single day). I won't be like The Wolf and dismiss a playing style that isn't mine as silly, pointless and having the potential to screw up the game, I'm all for including the most accurate MLB data if that's what makes the game sell, but really what I mean is that OOTP shouldn't sacrifice more customization for closer observance of MLB rules and rosters, it should continue to balance both. I'm no better or more deserving to have the features I want being included in the game, just like The Wolf or any MLB replicator isn't more worthy than me. We both play the game differently, and I wouldn't want OOTP to evacuate all MLB content - I just hope most MLB replicators agree with me as well and don't dismiss customizability as silly, pointless and shameful for OOTP.

Perhaps if I write a thirty-page treatise on the subject it will help. It appeared to help in regards to customizable playoffs.

I'm just thinking about all the tertiary things (like sound) that were added this year while a great concept like Feeder leagues haven't gotten any real attention since they were introduced.

Count me as one in the camp that would like to see Feeder leagues refined- and AI tuned to the point where they can actually be an asset to the game rather than just a token annoyance. Feeder leagues alone modeled in the way Wolf described would add HUGE value (and replay value) to the game if implemented correctly.

That tends to help I suppose. You need one for minor leagues, and one for feeder leagues

Any chance of you releasing the playoff document to the public? I personally would like to read it. Dunno about anyone else though...

Another pointless waste of time.

Dumb idea AND a pointless waste of time.

This is so ridiculous it's pathological. This is the ultimate waste of time and resources, such a bad idea that it makes sound look reasonable and useful.

You can do half of that now if you know how.

Finally something that actually might improve the game a bit! Hurray!

A second non-silly request. Way to go!
There is no need for posts like this.
