Question about trading

I am new to OOTP, having come over from Mogul, and I had a multi part question about trades. I just finalized a deal in my dynasty, where I acquired a SP, rated at 2 stars, 2 potential stars who in real life was fantastic, along with a starting SS, rated 3 stars, 3 potential stars in exchange for a backup 1B, who by my scouts was rated 1 star with a 2 1/2 potential stars, along with $50,000. I feel like I fleeced the AI. Could this be either my scouts or their scouts are just wrong, or is it as easy to get what you want from the AI as it is in Mogul? Do the weaknesses listed actually influence the decision making my the AI, because it did say they had a slight weakness at 1B. Thanks, and so far I am really enjoying the game!

I'm still learning the game myself, but they say you should set AI trading difficulty to hard if you want a decent challenge trading against the AI.

The other guys might be able to answer your more specific questions.

Well, first off, I would urge you NOT to make decisions based on what a person was in real life. OOTP is a simulation game, and isn't designed to exactly replicate real life. Sure, the player rating model makes it such that players should generally be similar to what they were in real life. My point, though, is you can't make the assumption that just because so-and-so hit .270 in 3 years with Cleveland in the real world, that if you pick him up in a trade he'll hit .270 for you!

Regarding your specific trade, I'd have to wait a long time to see who fleeced who. Frankly, in a trade that involves 50K and two 2-to-3 star players, I don't think this trade is of big enough magnitude to merit the term "fleeced" in any way at this point. Player contracts are a factor, as well as individual positional needs, team finances, player age, personalities, etc.

As the previous poster mentioned, you can always turn up the difficulty at any time if you feel the default trading is too easy!

Thanks,

Steve

For what it's worth, I have found this version of OOTP to be quite savvy when it comes to making trades. Almost every trade the AI has offered me has been fair, and if I really want a player from the AI, I have had to offer something for something.

I often spend a lot of time analyzing trade offers, and putting together offers of my own.

Other people may have different experiences, but I'm happy with how trading works in OOTP9.

Personally, I use Very Hard for trading and Heavily favour prospects. That works the best for me

Thanks for the replies! I do have trades set on hard, and I know that they won't necessarily perform like they did in real life, but according to the scouting reports for the players involved, I felt I took advantage, eh, no big deal I guess.

I had trading set to medium in the last version and found it rather easy to trade for a group of all-stars and after a couple seasons dominate the league.

I was the Royals and basically ended up with a lineup that included the likes of Liriano, Berkman, Howard, Teixeira, Upton, etc. Needless to say it became way too easy to win and i got bored rather quickly.

After that experience I never play with the trading set to anything lower than hard and the AI set to favour prospects. I find if the difficulty is set to very hard then it becomes too difficult to trade, which i still like to do, but that's just my opinion.

I only use fictional rosters and left Trading difficulty to average this year.

From what I've observed thus far, OOTP 9 is no different than previous versions when it comes to trade offers initiated by the AI: 99% of the trade proposals are nothing more than the AI trying to fleece me by unloading their overpaid, underperforming crap on my organization in exchange for some of my best talent. Instead of just deleting, I wish there was an option in messages to reply, "Stop wasting my g** d*** time, you f***ing a*******!"

On the other hand, trying to fleeece the AI by initiating trades, even with average difficulty, is tougher this year.
