increasing sim speed question...please answer if you can help

First, please bare with me for I'm not exactly a computer expert.

Here's the deal:

I'm running OOTP 9 on a 2003 model Gateway with 2.23 GB of RAM, 149 GB of hard drive space with currently 131 GB's of free space and using a dual core Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.40 GHz processors.

From what I understand I am meeting the computing requirements but yet sim speed seems to be very slow.

I'm trying to run a full league of organized MLB baseball complete with all the real minor leagues from the two AAA's on down to the short season rookie leagues. I am also trying to save box scores from the major only.

What do I need to do in order to speed up the sim process aside from deleting leagues and not saving box scores? Do I need to add more memory? Do I need a better processor? Or if I purchased another hard drive solely for use with OOTP 9 would that do the trick?

Thanks and much appreciation for any answers I get guys!!!!

Turn off your virus scan and the sim speed increases ten fold

ie. If you have McAfee simply open it up, from the basic menu select computers and files, select configure, then turn the virus scan "enaled" to off.

You can also increase sim speed by going to OOTP Preferences, and changing the Auto-play Display to simple dialog.

Also, defragmenting your hard drive may help. OOTP does quite a bit of read/write activity, and if your disk is fragmented, it can negatively affect things.

THAT WAS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dude, thank you so much. I don't know why I never turned it off on even bothered to think of it but it's done the trick...now this game is EXACTLY what I thought it was....a blast.

Quick question: If I did add some more memory would that speed it up even more? It's pretty fast now but I'd love to see it go even faster if possible.

Thanks again, man....really appreciate it!!!!

I tried defragmenting but it didn't matter. It seems to be the virus scan mentioned above and now it's flying even with all of those leagues I have.

Thanks alot though for responding.

Your 2.2 gigs of RAM is plenty. I'm running 3 GB, but really where you're sitting is good. From what i've read on current technology too much RAM can actually cause problems with your PC. According to the reading there isn't much out there game wise that puts that great a demand on your PC to be over 3 gigs.
