AI Lack of Intelligence

Has anyone figured a way to have the AI act in a reasonable manner when it comes to substitutions during the game.

Specifically, the AI pinch hitting for the light hitting shortstop and putting a person not only who never played the position but there is no way he ever could have into the field. And it is the sixth inning!

Yogi Berra was a great player but a shortstop???

Here's one I saw recently in my 1969 league...after pinch-hitting late in the game, Willie Mays subbed at 2B with legitimate infielders available on the bench.
Very odd.
