Spring training

If I turn spring training off, will all players start out the new season with rust or will everyone be OK? I'd rather just skip it if possible.

They will start out with rust. Don't know if the rust is worth worrying about, though. I don't know that anyone has ever done a study comparing exactly the same guy's performance with spring training and without.

Beings will most definitely come." - Gladden Field of Dreams

Speaking of spring training, is there a way to start the season earlier in the MLB 2008 game? By the time the game starts there is only a couple of days of spring training. I know you can push back the start of the season but it would just be easier to start the game in FEB or something. Not just for rust but I know that when a guy plays out of position, he learns it faster in spring training than the actual season.

I noticed that too. However, with a quickstart saved game, which is what the MLB 2008 game is, you cannot change the date with which it was saved. I actually had to create a template from it in order to start the game in 2001 like I wanted to (also with fictional players), a task made easier by copying parks.dat from the quickstart to my new game.
