Rule 5 Draft -- Too many players eligable?

Hey guys.. perhaps another stupid question.. but I really don't understand.. I have the Rule 5 Draft enabled.. and there is a pitcher in the Orioles farm that is just 19 years old, yet he is eligable?

Not to mention that almost everybody in their AAA team, and most on AA team are eligable.. How am I suppost to protect them all if I can only carry an additional 15? I think there may be something wrong.. either that or that I don't know about a certain rule that makes a player eligable..

I thought he had to have 6 years or more of activity in the minors before being Rule 5 Draft eligable?

That would be one Chris Tillman of Double A Bowie Bay Sox, no? 19 years old and eligible for Rule 5 Draft? That does not sound right according to this from the manual:

Quote:
Rule 5 Draft Eligibility

A player is eligible for the Rule 5 draft if he meets the conditions listed below. Follow the links to learn more about some of the terms used below:
  1. The player has at least three but fewer than six years of professional service time, and the player was age 19 or older when he first signed a contract.
  2. The player is not on the team's secondary roster.
Note: Players who were age 18 or younger when they entered the league are eligible if they have at least four, but fewer than seven years of professional service time. In other words, young players get an extra year before they become eligible for the Rule 5 draft.
Now, go back to the game and call up Tillman's profile. Click the Contract & Status button. See the Time as a Professional: 5 years! That would make Chris a professional ballplayer at age 14.

Listen, here's the deal. If you were playing fictionally, you would not be seeing these problems. You are apparently playing with the 2008 MLB quickstart game, and this was designed by human beings who make mistakes. Many of them have been reported already. Many will be fixed in future patches. My guess on ones like this? Will never be fixed. Just .

Gotcha, Tillman was the player.. It's like that with a ton of players though.. Billy Rowell being another 19 year old example. I have turned off the Rule 5 Draft due to there being so many players eligable for it that shouldn't be.

That's thinking outside the (check)box! I sounded too pessimistic above; they are working to improve the quickstart for the mid-July patch. Also, don't miss the sticky at the top of the General Discussions board today. You can download some .dat files that will change certain settings back to where they should have been for the version in the first patch.
