BZ 1612: Mac Start UP Problem
Hi,
I just downloaded the game and can not get it to start up. I deleted and redownloaded with no luck. This does not appear to be the resolution problem as I have not been able to get the game to load even once. I double click and it acts like it is going to load and then nothing. My config.: OS 10.5.3 2.4 GHZ Intel core 2 Duo Thanks, Christopher |

If you haven't already, I'd uninstall the program (make sure you clear it from every folder), and go through the resolution solution anyway. To be 100% sure, I'd even wipe out the downloaded install file and start from scratch. If the problem still persists, well, then on to step two (can't say what that is, but the Tech Support guys will).
Did you try to "reset" the program via the solution posted in the resolution issues thread with no luck? |

Still need help
I am still looking for help on this problem. I took the file I downloaded and transferred it to my laptop which is still running os 10.4 and it loaded succesfully. It's slow and that is no longer a machine I use for anything but writing.
I need it to work on the os 10.5 machine. I have not been able to start it even once. |

Hi, just a shot in the dark, but have you tried deleting the file mentioned in the resolution thread? I know you haven't been able to start at all, but getting rid of those hidden files is a necessary part of the "full uninstall" in any case.

Refund
Ok I have had the game for days and it does not run. No one from technical service seems to have an answer or even willing to answer me.
I have bought this game for many years and never had it simply not run. At this point I just want my money back! ANy suggestions on how to get that done. |

It seems basic, but have you tried repairing the permissions using Disk Utility? A lot of times when a program isn't loading, that's why. Also, use Console to check the console and system logs to see if there are any messages relating to the program crashing. That'd give us a better idea of what your computer is doing when OOTP isn't loading.

OK, now I'm having this same problem. I read Andreas' post in another thread about how installing to a custom directory allows all of the files to be in that directory rather than dumping a bunch of files in the Documents folder. So I decided to clear out my OOTP9 folders in the Applications folder, the Documents folder, and also in /Library/Application Support/ which is where I think there were some copy protection things. Those may have been for OOTP8 though. Anyway, I deleted everything I could find related to OOTP and tried to reinstall to a directory on my second hard drive partition. The install went fine, but when I tried to load the game, it immediately crashed. I checked the Console log and found this:
6/25/08 11:21:14 PM com.apple.launchd[439] ([0x0-0x618618].com.yourcompany.ootp[37058]) posix_spawnp("/Volumes/Data/OOTP9/OOTP9.app/Contents/MacOS/OOTP9", ...): Permission denied 6/25/08 11:21:14 PM com.apple.launchd[439] ([0x0-0x618618].com.yourcompany.ootp[37058]) Exited with exit code: 1 I'm running Mac OS X 10.5.3, Powerbook G4 (PPC). I followed my own advice and tried running the Disk Utility's repair tool for the hell of it, but it didn't help.

type: ls -al Post the results. Also try: ./OOTP9 Again post results Ta |

Paul, I think I understand where you're going here. I tried making /Volumes/Data/OOTP9/OOTP9.app/Contents/MacOS/OOTP9 executable by running "chmod +x OOTP9". That worked. I am now able to load OOTP9 successfully.
However, now I get a message that says: ![]() The game continues to load, then I get this: ![]() When I hit OK, the game closes. Remember, this is when I do a custom install location. I'm guessing that's related because it works OK when I install to the default location. Except for the whole no multiuser support thing.

hmm, You guessed right the chmod() was my next post, you stole my thunder
![]() I am very confused as to why the file does not have +x set. The installer called chmod +x OOTP9 as it installs. Anyhow, lets get you going first. As far as esellerate is concerned you need to ask andreas as I know very little here I am afraid. The font file however is my bag. The error is very simply saying the data/font folder does not have the font it needs. My first guess is you have an old data file or folder hanging about from an old install. Can you make sure all your previous installations are cleared up. There is a thread about this but I dont know where off the top of my head. I am hoping that should fix your issue. Please report back any success/failure you get

Is there anything else I should erase? I tried reinstalling to a custom directory after erasing these directories but still got the fonts error and the esellerate error.

I forgot to mention, I tried to do this on my other Mac and had the same problem. I can't guarantee that there are no remnants of previous installations on that though.

I just looked at the installer configuration and you should have font files in "[inst_location]/data/fonts".
Can you double check you have them pls. Also check to see if you have a "/Applications/Out Of The Park Developments/OOTP Baseball 9" folder, and if so deleted it. |

Something else that has just dawned on me, where are you installing too? Is it the main system drive or another one? There must be something about your new install location that is upsetting things. We just need to find out what it is.

silly
I have been trying all of this and still do not have a running game.
This is incredibly silly. I did not buy this game to beta test how to get it to run on a mac. I wish to receive my money back as I expressed earlier. Christopher |

If you want a refund you should go back to the place you bought it. In this case I am guessing it was esellerate as neither PISD nor OOTPDev handle peoples money directly. As for the bug not being found. We have a number of Mac beta testers, plus Andreas and myself work on macs occasionally. None of us have seen this issue. It might sound rather trite, but I can only fix what I know is broken. We try our best to have these issues fixed before release but as I am sure you will agree OOTPB is a large complex game and some things fall through the net. It seems to me this issue is related to the newest version of MacOS despite a couple of our testers using it. I consider this an important issue and wish to find a solution soon. Look on the bright side,I am on the case now and trying to fix it. It is up to you if you choose to wait or ask esellerate for a refund,. The choice is yours. |

Paul, I just tried a tactic which I think will be helpful. I formatted my hard drive and then re-installed Mac OS X 10.5 fresh. (Time Machine's great for backups!) I applied the combo patch to 10.5.3, rebooted, and then installed OOTP9 to a custom location. In my case, it was /Volumes/Data/OOTP9. I checked the Console to see what the system log had to say. After the installation, it said this:
6/29/08 10:00:54 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.UserEventAgent-LoginWindow[96]) Exited: Terminated 6/29/08 10:02:57 AM [0x0-0x12012].com.yourcompany.installer_macos[214] chmod: /OOTP9/OOTP9.app/Contents/MacOS/OOTP9: No such file or directory 6/29/08 10:02:58 AM [0x0-0x12012].com.yourcompany.installer_macos[214] chmod: /OOTP9/OOTP9.app/Contents/MacOS/OOTP9: No such file or directory 6/29/08 10:02:58 AM [0x0-0x12012].com.yourcompany.installer_macos[214] chmod: /OOTP9/OOTP9.app/Contents/Resources/main.nib/classes.nib: No such file or directory 6/29/08 10:02:58 AM [0x0-0x12012].com.yourcompany.installer_macos[214] chmod: /OOTP9/OOTP9.app/Contents/Resources/main.nib/info.nib: No such file or directory 6/29/08 10:02:58 AM [0x0-0x12012].com.yourcompany.installer_macos[214] chmod: /OOTP9/OOTP9.app/Contents/Resources/main.nib/objects.xib: No such file or directory 6/29/08 10:02:58 AM [0x0-0x12012].com.yourcompany.installer_macos[214] chmod: /OOTP9/OOTP9.app/Contents/Resources/EWSMacCompress.tar.gz: No such file or directory 6/29/08 10:02:58 AM [0x0-0x12012].com.yourcompany.installer_macos[214] chmod: /OOTP9/OOTP9.app/Contents/Resources/Info.plist: No such file or directory 6/29/08 10:02:58 AM [0x0-0x12012].com.yourcompany.installer_macos[214] chmod: /OOTP9/OOTP9.app/Contents/Resources/InfoPlist.strings: No such file or directory 6/29/08 10:02:58 AM [0x0-0x12012].com.yourcompany.installer_macos[214] chmod: /OOTP9/OOTP9.app/Contents/Resources/OOTP9.icns: No such file or directory 6/29/08 10:02:58 AM [0x0-0x12012].com.yourcompany.installer_macos[214] chmod: /OOTP9/OOTP9.app/Contents/Info.plist: No such file or directory 6/29/08 10:02:58 AM [0x0-0x12012].com.yourcompany.installer_macos[214] chmod: /OOTP9/OOTP9.app/Contents/PkgInfo: No such file or directory So it seems like the installer never gets the chance to run the chmods that it needs to. After I looked at this, I checked the permissions of the OOTP9 file that you had me change the permissions on earlier. As one might think, they were set wrong. I ran chmod +x on the file and loaded OOTP9. My results were the same as before. I first got the error about Esellerate not being able to be loaded. Then I got the font error. So I can safely say that even on a fresh install of 10.5.3, OOTP cannot be installed to a custom location.

I checked that folder on the fresh install and in it, I have two files. I have vera.ttf and verabd.ttf.
