Newbie (a little frustrated)

It has been several years since I have played this game. Decided to purchase this years version and I am struggling a bit.

My goal is to use the 2008 rosters and manage the Detroit Tigers (computer manages all other teams).

My first league (prior to the patch) went well but there were some quirky stats for Minnesota. After the patch was released, I restarted a league but several things were not working properly (like AI transactions, 40 man roster etc.). I found a thread in the forum describing how to adjust the settings to get things back to the way they were before the patch. I do this and immediately lose on of my players who is not on the active roster (but a key player) to waivers (I am guessing because my 40 man roster was not set).

I will likely start over one more time and have a few questions:

1) When I turn on the 40 man roster option, how do you assign players to that roster?

2) Some of the Tiger players are not rated at positions which they are currently playing in real life (like Brandon Inge who is a former catcher and is playing that position this year). Is there any way for me to rate him as a catcher?

3) I would like to utilize the ballpark images found in MOD forum. I have loaded the ballparks as described in the instructions however my ballpark shows for every home and road game. Any suggestions on how to get my opponents park to show when playing at their stadium?

Thanks

Okay - the latest patch has turned off many options we would assume to be on. The MOST IMPORTANT OF THESE is choose 'Allow AI to make roster moves' or something similar in the Functions menu on league setup. As an aside, if the powers-that-be read this, seriously, the patch should be put out again with all the expected functions enabled - I know Markus is away, but turning this and 40-man roster on would take Andreas/Steve a relatively short amount of time (I know it would be a pain). Imagine being a first time user or buyer, playing the game for two months, and discovering that the AI hadn't made a roster change.

It's a bit of a pain, but dragging them manually will do it. Running computer manager will/should autofill all teams (From League Setup, Functions, 'Run comp manager on all AI teams) but it may juggle your minors up a bit, so do it before you make any roster changes.

Yes. You need to be a manager with 'Commissioner' mode turned on. You can either enable that function on yourself, or create a dummy commissioner as a new manager and 'select' the commissioner whenever you want to start. Then go to the player page, and select editor. You'll need to give edit the catcher ability and catcher arm ratings, and assign a rating in the position experience field.

This should happen automatically. It looks like what's happened is that for some reason your All-in-One Installer package has failed to install the ballparks. I would do the following for a surefire manual method to get all ballparks working correctly:

1) go to Main and click the ballpark image

2) unzip the file and copy the images (not the folder) into the ballparks file in your main folder and in the ballparks folder in your saved game (if you want to update a saved game)

3) copy the parks.dat file to wherever the readme suggest (I'm a Mac user, and I put it into the league's save game folder).

Any more help needed, feel free to ask.
