Here are my main beefs with OOTP 9:
- Gameplay is incredibly slow. I mean, I click on something, and it takes 3 or 4 full seconds to change the screen. This is about 80 percent of my clicks of any kind. - The personal message system is TOTALLY out of whack. A number of problems with this feature: ..... When a new message stops your simulation, the game doesn't bring you to the message. It brings you to the BOTTOM of a list of about 80 messages, and then you have to scroll all the way up and search through a whole bunch of meaningless news, just to find one shred of something for your team. ..... There is no filter to only display your personal messages! How could this be forgotten by developers?!? ..... I am left with two options: Either have my sim interrupted every time there's a message, and then hunt through the list of 80 messages for it; or don't get interrupted, and then have to constantly look through hundreds of messages that might involve my scout or a contract or whatever. - This is the final complaint that put me over the edge, and now has me ready to revert back to OOTP 5 (for the third time): In the playoffs, I had a four-man rotation with the Cubs. Dempster went in Game 1 because Zambrano was tired. But Demp is my #3 starter, so my #4, Rich Hill, was scheduled to start Game 2 against Jake Peavy. That is bad, so I went to my pitching lineup and set the Next Scheduled Starter to #1 (Zambrano). ... Well, it pitched Hill anyway! Which means I have no control over which starter starts! And not even in the playoffs! ![]() These issues have made OOTP 9 an unpleasant experience so far, I'm sorry to say. Anyone else having these issues? Anything I can do to fix them? I'm conflicted because the rest of the game is so great. But the constant waiting, constant message problems, and lack of pitching control makes it difficult to put the time in to play. Peace out, y'all.

On the bottom list of icons, the 4th one over (popup says Manager Options) you can set preferences. At the bottom of the left hand side, scroll down, you'll see "subscribe to" and it looks to default to news from the whole league. You can set that to news of only your team, or only your organization. So anything in your personal messages folder would be about only your team or organization instead of everyone else in the world. Unless that option isn't working right... have no reason to think it wouldn't though. Quote:
In your pitching section change the option at the bottom that normally says "start highest rested starter" to "strict order". Then when you change it so Zambrano pitches he will.... even if you tell him to pitch when he's exhausted. I change that for the playoffs EVERY time.

I'm wondering what sort of computer you're running this on, specs and all. Maybe that could account for the slowness of it?

messages - you do have some control over what messages you want to see.
try changing subscribe to "no news, only personal messages" You can also turn off some of the interrupts. as far as your rotation problem - change the setting to strict order and then select the # you want, it should start the correct guy. Plus another thing I have done if I want to make a specific change but don't have the time/interest in playing out the whole game is to start the game, make my initial lineup and then choose to sim the whole game. Plus if you are going to "go back" at least go back to 6.5, much better than 5 IMO

You must have CPU issues as this is the fastest OOTP version ever as far as starting up, gameplay, saving and the replay mode which is absolutely awesome.

disable everything running in the background and see if that helps with the lag issues. Also, make sure all your drivers are up-to-date and that you're using the manufacturer drivers

I have to say, I was actually really, really, REALLY impressed by the speed of the game. It is so much better (so much better) than 7 or 2008. It is by far my favorite new "feature" of OOTP9.
Then again, I'm running 3GB RAM with a GeForce 8800GT card. So there's that, too.

I even remember using 5.25" floppy diskettes to load programs on the first personal computer I ever owned. It had a CPU which ran at a blistering 8 MHz (12 MHz in Turbo mode), no hard drive, monochrome graphics (I think CGA graphics came in soon after I got the system), and a 12" monitor. I think the system had 640K of RAM. |

my first couple of computers had no hard drive, and I remember the first one that did have one has a MASSIVE 10MB - I really thought I would never fill that up. I also remember writing some little BASIC programs that would take my entry of a players strat o matic stats and assign random stats based off his real stats. I would then enter it on graph paper so I would have league leaders to compare to my players stats from playing out all my games. I told you I am an old geek.

I've been impressed with how much faster this version is. Even facegen flies.

I had an IBM PC Jr with 128KB of memory (yes KB) and spent about $275 on a big plastic case that snapped onto the side of the computer, and held an additional whopping 128KB of memory. It had 2 5.25" floppies on it though !
I was in heaven when my next PC had a 10 MB hard drive in it. The one thing I certainly dont miss from those days are trying to get the darn sound cards configured correctly. What a nightmare that was Sorry for contributing to the thread jack. Comense the discussion on speed |

I once wrote a BASIC program that would say "YAY!" in big flashing letters.
Yup, there's the extent of my programming experience.
