Post your most ridiculous Bruce/Longoria season!

Don't get me wrong, being a Reds fan I love that Bruce is the love child of Willie Mays and Ted Williams. But I'm thinking that maybe the creators of the MLB dataset were a little optomistic.

So far his 4 year career has progressed as follows:
2008 - .316/.366/.484 18 HR, 43 SB
2009 - .357/.446/.597 27 HR, 35 SB
2010 - .392/.496/.735 49 HR, 41 SB
2011 - .427/.513/.776 49 HR 33 SB <- Triple Crown (156 R, 156 RBI)

Longoria is no slouch either, just finishing the 2011 season with this line:
.391/.474/.700 42 HR, 13 SB (132 R, 118 RBI)

Longoria has been a beast in my game too. But I just used a database, not a roster set. So..meh.

I just finished my first season and Bruce hit .337 w/ 22 HR, 93 RBI, .926 OPS and had a 27 game hit streak as well. Longoria had a .314 avg, 32 HRs, 107 RBI and .924 OPS. Looks like they'll both be beasts unless injuries strike.

da·ta·base - NOUN - A comprehensive collection of related data organized for convenient access, generally in a computer.

Sorry, couldn't help it, he probably means Lahmann or something - database of players over time you can use to import players into your league.

My guess is that you'll see OOTP hitters peaking at 24-25.

08- .302/.350/.490 27 HRs 66 RBI
09- .368/.486/.623 31 HRs 111 RBI
10- .407/.494/.718 37 HRs 100 RBI
11- .371/.481/.663 40 HRs 115 RBI
12- .373/.465/.695 47 HRs 129 RBI

Evan Longoria
08- .272/.353/.437 19 HRs 92 RBI
09- .363/.457/.588 23 HRs 91 RBI
10- .390/.477/.693 43 HRs 132 RBI
11- .359/.446/.594 27 HRs 96 RBI

At that point Bruce is 25 and Longoria 26. What happens next?

Haven't simmed farther than that yet, I will go forward when I get a chance and report the results

I'll bet you a virtual Fresca that neither will repeat their 24-26 year-old seasons. Just guessing

I suppose I need to read the manual to find out what using neutralized stats means.

I was using Lahman. But it might have happened in my test league with the default rosters too. I don't recall which one it happened in, probably the latter now that I think of it.

I'm using the quick start 08 roster and made no adjustments to anything. So whatever the default is produced these results. If I was starting up a serious league I would play around with modifiers, but this was just a quick sim to see how things looked with the new version.
I would think for newbies who are just looking for a 'quick start' game without having to learn all about different modifiers before just firing the game up results like these would be discouraging. I know in the past modifiers were necessary to dial in whatever third party rosters you used, however seeing as how the rosters were done in house I would expect that the default 'quick start' would produce results more in line with what you'd consider 'normal'

And RonCo I believe neutralized stats are what the player would put up if there were no 'park factor' constraints on him.

Ah--you mean the projections in the player editor? I assume those are as reliable as they have been in the past.

I never pay any attention to them.

Agreed. Because this roster set comes with the game, there is some expectations that default settings would produce semi-real results. Having multiple players push .400 every season strains credibility.

It was fun at first, being a Reds fan and watching Bruce do this, but after a few seasons it quickly loses it's appeal, as it feels like cheating having a guy post a 150 VORP each season, even though all I did was take over a bottom dwelling team with some good prospects.

I mentioned this when I first simmed a few seasons with the set. The high prospects are heavily overated in the game and almost all of them turn out to be stars. The league is riddled with 25-28 year old stars after 3 seasons and there are little signs of veterans throughout the game.

As a rookie Bruce hit .359 with nearly a .500 OBP. He won the MVP easily. Since then he has been rotating MVP awards year after year with Joey Votto who hits .340 with 40 homers every year. Longoria hit .402 in 2010 with 35 homers. He has won the MVP from 2008 through 2011 (which is the last year I simmed).
