We have more than our share of those one street towns in Kansas and they are all named Main St. Go figure. Many of the towns that have crisscrossing roads here, they name them A & B street. Sounds like rocket science doesn't it. I actually live in the town of Strauss (with a McCune zipcode) and we have a population of 7 now. Used to be 8 but my daughter has left for college.

All team cap limits have been changed to 105.
The waiver wire will open up at the end of week five. Remember, your team cap must always be at the 105 point limit or below except during the 3 waiver rounds by provisions in the rules. Week 5 will begin shortly. I won't have a lot of time tomorrow night but I plan on hitting it hard Friday night and Saturday. So it is possible that the waiver wire will open up as early as Sunday (June 22, 2008). Each waiver round will be 24 hours long. The time limit for each waiver round will be strictly enforced, so be ready with your choices if you plan on making any roster moves. For the new guys, since I'm a participating owner of a team, I always send out my choices by PM for the waivers in advance to Romultiltus and Romy before I ask for any from the rest of the league. That way I can't perform any hanky-panky with my choices. |

Thanks for the stats Dave.
![]() I'm still waiting for that Bink Gazette. If I don't see it soon, the Binks may have a rough week.![]() The end of week five, we will see the opening of the free agent pool and we will also see our first top 20 rankings posted. We should also see some fighters move to pre-prime this game week as well. |

No, you can't!
That Martinez win over Canizales was big for you. Good match, Bear.

BINK GAZETTE June 20, 2008
Fresh off their first win against the Left Jabbers, and a road win at that, the Binks entertained the division leaders Diggtown Ringers on June 16. The Hartford-based Ringers had thumped each of their opponents, generally by wide margins, and had a good lead in the powerful Cribb Division. Led by powerhouses Kelly Pavlik and Cornelius Boza-Edwards (both 6-0), Khaokor Galaxy (5-0-1), and Arturo Gatti and Karoly Balzsay (5-1 each), the Ringers had run roughshod, going a collective 53-38-5, and had amassed a ton of points! The Binks came in with a 1-2 match record, going a collective 47-46-3. With only one fighter, overachieving Max Resch, at 5-1, the Binks had their work cut out for them and were big underdogs on paper. But Mack Lewis had scouted the Diggstown lads and felt that the Binks could do well and be competitive if they followed his instructions. Captain Hasim “the Rock” Rahman said “Sure, they look great, but statistics are for suckers! I think, no, check that, I know we’ve got a chance!” Buoyed by these statements, the Civic Center was filled to capacity. Amina Sade and her friends were at the gates, dispensing team brochures and a few of their pictures as well! The Orioles had just thumped an inter-league rival, the Pittsburg Pirates, and had an off-night before getting ready to whup up on the Houston Astros and former star Miguel Tejada, so many of them were present as well, handing out autographs. For some reason, Amina and her friends had the longer lines! A pretty good-sized contingent of Diggstown supporters had traveled down to watch the supposed slaughter, and there was some playful banter between the two sets of fans, with a few fights breaking out, one of which may have identified a future Bink! Amina and her friends did their pre-match routines which fired up the crowd, and the Ringers were a little slow coming out of the gate. Their weak flyweight contingent dropped two to start the match, crowd-pleasing Chocky Chockvivat delighting the crowd with a KO in Round 1, then Jackie Brown getting a decision. Things looked real promising when Boots Monroe, who came in a disappointing 1-5, pasted Khaokor Galaxy, giving him his first loss of the year! But the Ringers regrouped and showed why they are so highly-rated, taking three of the next four fights, but the Binks weren’t ready yet to throw in the towel.Bummy Davis shocked the heavily-favored 6-0 Boza-Edwards with a 4th round KO, and welter Tommy West delighted the crowd by taking out Arturo Gatti (5-1) in the 5th. These two upsets raised the Binks’ hopes, but they were dashed as the Ringers dominated the middleweight through heavyweight fights , winning 5 of 6 (Melio Bettina getting the only win with a savage hook that took out Mike Rossman in Round 1), rallying to 8-8 at halftime. But our Binks led on points, 26.5-22.5, and the home crowd was ecstatic! Was an upset in the making? ![]() Chocky demolished his opponent in 4 to start the 2nd half, and Jackie Brown got an easy win, but Galaxy KOd our junior bantam, Danny O’Sullivan, in 1, starting a four fight win streak for the Ringers. Danny suffered two knockout losses for the night, and his record dropped to 4-3-1. Welcome Ncita surprised Young Corbett II (now 5-3) with a 10th round KO, and promising feather Jose Badillo lost his second of the night! The Bink lightweights plugged the gap, Buzzsaw Yamabe getting a split for the night with an electrifying performance to gain a unanimous decision over Boza-Edwards, and then Bummy Davis notching his second win, stopping Rolando Navarrete on cuts! Bummy’s two upsets put his record at 5-3, earning him co-fighter of the night! Tommy West was game, but dropped a decision to Crisanto Espana, and then fellow welter Cocoa Kid was knocked out by Gatti in the 12th, and some felt the Kid was way up at the time but got careless. That loss took a bit of the wind out of the Binks’ sails. Max Resch dropped his second fight of the night, Kelly Pavlik knocking him out in 7. Henry Hank did stop Tony Chiaverini, after earlier dropping a disputed split decision earlier to Pavlik. Oakland Billy Smith avenged a majority decision loss to Karoly Balzsay by decisioning Mike Rossman, but Balzsay had just enough to top Melio Bettina. Ingemar Johansson capped a super night, knocking out overmatched Keith (Nighty-night) McKnight in Round 1, a round less than it took him to KO the Rock! Rahman closed the night with a KO of Vassily Jirov, but was it too little, too late? The final score was Diggstown 17 wins, 15 losses, outscoring the Binks 53-48.5. The seven KOs in the second half, and winning that one extra fight, sealed the victory. The Binks were bitterly disappointed, but saluted their conquerors. Captain Rahman was distraught, feeling that he’d let the team down, as he fell to Ingo’s “thunder” before he could unleash his own! The proud young slugger vowed to even the score in the rematch! Henry Hank’s split decision loss to Kelly Pavlik also could have been the difference. When asked to comment, Henry said “Kelly is a great fighter. I thought I might have won, but it was close and could have gone either way. These are the breaks of the game!” Melio Bettina felt he’d let one get away, too, but, until the Binks can view the bout logs, we can’t verify that. If the Cocoa Kid had won, if, if, if, but the final score was what it was! Bummy Davis shared co-fighter of the match honors with Chocky, who was a powerhouse in his two victories. Bummy was no slouch in the power department, as each of his wins lasted only 4 rounds, and his opponents were both rated higher. Keith McKnight continues to be a work in progress, and his two stoppages in 5 rounds dropped his record to 1-7. His only win was by the DQ route, and one wonders if his roster spot is in jeopardy. The Rock took him out afterward for some ribs and comfort food, vowing to fatten him up. We’ll have to see what next week brings. Boots Monroe was great in beating Galaxy, but is still a disappointing 2-6, more often resembling a Horace than a Boots! So that elusive first win at home eluded the Binks, who still were given a standing ovation by their fans for a gutsy performance! The closest margin of victory for the Ringers previously had been 11.5, so this match definitely qualified as a scare. Mighty Diggstown had prevailed, but the Binks had banged away on them, and one wonders if the cumulative effect of the Bink blows will weaken the Ringers in their next match? Mack Lewis, in a post-match interview, remarked that “We have a bunch of young scrappers, but we had them on the ropes and let them get away! Close only counts in horseshoes! Maybe we need to put a few of those in our gloves for our next match!” Smiling, he added “We may have identified a future fighter from one of the fights that broke out among the fans. There is a young lad named Clarence, uh, Burman, who packed some power, and we’ll be training him at our gym. But that name Clarence has got to go! He’s a red head, so maybe we’ll just call him Red.” Alas, the Cribb Division is highly competitive, and the Binks are still mired in the cellar with a 62-63-3 record, and 198 points, 9.5 points behind the third place St. Louis Sluggers. The Binks next travel to the Windy City to take on the second place team in the division, the mighty Bears Unstable! Can they continue their string of close matches, or will they fall prey to da Bears? Amina Sade said that she and a few of her friends will be making the trip, to help with the boys’ morale. This writer could use a little morale boost! A few busloads of loyal supporters plan on making the trip as well. They have been shouting “bring on the Bears”, and each plans to bring a small stuffed bear along for the trip, but God knows what for! This is making this reporter ask the question “what exactly IS a Bink?” Buzzsaw Yamabe opined that it was some sort of cat, like a Persian or Siamese, but Chocky disagreed. I’ve never heard of such a strain of cats. The ones around the Binks’ gym seem to be fat and sassy, but of no particular pedigree. No one seems to know what a Bink is, but I’ll get to the bottom of the mystery in the ensuing weeks! Bink Fever, catch it ! You’ll only wish you died! The Left Jabs’ owner seems finally to be recovering, though he did invite the Binks to visit whenever they’d like. Then again, it may have been Amina he invited! Bring on the Bears – well, maybe! Bring on Amina – definitely!

It is a dubious distinction to lead in Most Stoppages by Cuts ! I need to figure how many times my guys were leading when they got stopped. We may need to soak our guys in some of the briny water from the Chesapeake Bay to toughen their skin! In all likelihood, it was just accumulated blows that led to the cuts and stoppages. As for those who are getting the wins, maybe the commish needs to see if they have something a little extra in their gloves ? I did note that Brooks Battlers are listed there twice, and the Baltimore Binks haven't been mentioned!

Congratulations on the fact that the Baltimore Binks lead the league with most TKO losses by cuts and are tied for the lead in TKO wins by cuts. A total of 21 bouts in 4 weeks of action have resulted in cuts stoppages for the Binks. The next closest team is Left Jab Inc. w/ 18 (8 wins & 10 losses) |
