....and....nothing
OK, so I download and install OOTP, Click on the icon to play the game, the little blue spinning circle that replaced the hour glass in windows spins for a second, and nothing happens. The game doesn't launch, it doesn't even come up in the task manager as running.

Have you tried restarting? What platform are you running on? Could you possibly be low on resources, subquestion- can you open other programs?

If you're using AVG anti-virus software then this is the problem, it conflicts with OOTP 9 right now. I suggest replacing it with 'avast' anti-irus, that's better anyway

Running Intel Core 2 Dual 2.6 GHZ, 32 bit Vista, 2 Gig ram, plenty of HD space, Nvidia 8600 GTS.
I'm usually pretty good with this stuff, but I'm going to make myself sound stupid. Is AVG Avast, or is AVG the name of something completly different. If AVG and Avast are one in the same, the answer is yes, I am using Avg. Another question, what is the size of the download file? I am wondering if I didn't download the entire file. The download file is showing as 192 MB. |

oops
I didn't notice in the orginal post where you clearly state that Avtg and Avast are not the same thing. Not trying to be a jerk here, just didn't see it.

Vista is very protective of it's inner workings...running as administrator gets you around the limitations the OS imposes on the user.
Obviously the game "does something" that the OS doesn't tolerate. Maybe accessing the registry or something...I don't know...I'm no VISTA guru. |

and this is very much a Vista problem, not an OOTP problem. this happens with most games in Vista. just another one of the great new Vista features.

Yes - I can confirm that many other games (try Civ4, for example) will do the same thing unless you run as admin. Some games even require you run under WinXP mode - fortunately OOTP does not.
