I don't OOTP is obligated to have much depth beyond the ML rosters. Anything else is pudding.

It was quite easy for me to fix my teams (The Twins) top 10-20 prospects. The rest of the players simply don't matter since they will never reach the major leagues. Sure, I was dissapointed that Twins first round pick last year, Ben Revere, (who's hitting over .400 at A ball), so I took two minutes and created the dude.

I would seriously recommend the Fill Minors button for people who want their rosters more filled out.

I'm impressed by the roster set, having played the game for nearly five years, and using mod-made roster sets.

It doesn't work that easy. Entering a minor leaguers stats would be pointless since you can't tell what type of a player someone is based on stats in the minor leagues;

You can enter player's stats into the Lahman DB and import as a new season- its what I did with my 2008 MLB Spring Training Roster set posted back in March for OOTP8. I imported the 2008 PECOTA projections for all players into Lahman for the 2008 - upon import the game gave ratings / talents based on these stats. I did have to go back and touch everyone, but for the most part the import did a great job.

I play exclusivly fictional, but I completely understand why people want up-to-date rosters. If I had more time and felt as strongly about this as others here is how I would solve it.

Using an open source wiki as a base. I would then write an plugin to connect to Lahman-esque database, so that each league, team, and player would have an editable wiki page with editable stats and other information (like OOTP ratings, i dunno?). Once the page is saved the Lahman-esque DB is updated. This way one person is exempt from making all changes and potentially many people could help change the database easily. They would also be able to download an up-to-date db of their own too.

However I do not have that time, and the time I do have I want to spend doing other more important things (for me). If anyone wants a little help developing the above I could be persuaded to design and help, but I just don't have the time to do it all.

roster problems

I agree that there are some definite roster problems that make it very disheartening when first playing the game.

The Tampa Bay Rays have 5 players in AAA, which is terrible, and it's unfortunate that their awesome farm system is not accurately represented in the game. I guess their chances of winning the division in 2009 won't exist in this game as it does in real life.

Most minor leaguers just stink, as others have discussed. There's no difference between Brett Gardner (a b-minus prospect who could actually develop into a legit leadoff hitter) who is just a non descript piece of garbage. Worse, Phil Hughes' potential ratings are just terrible. Now, Hughes may not become the #1 or #2 starter that just about every baseball scout and executive believes...and the game may play that out as well. BUT...no one can argue that the potential is not there. And the potential is actually NOT there on Phil. This is just one example of a much larger problem.

Here's what I propose... Someone (Me?) needs to export the rosters out to excel... Create a community wide Google Docs account. Upload the excel Doc, then share the doc with anyone that wants to contribute. The way they have Google Docs set up, we could all access and edit the excel file and then when its all done, just download the finished work and import it back and then we have a roster!

Does anybody know a good resource for ML salaries? I'd like to manually adjust salaries (is that possible?) for the Rangers as some real life big salaries that aren't in OOTP9 make for a more interesting beginning of the game.

I've found that 5 out of 6 times I have simmed the first year with the standard 2008 rosters that Tampa Bay wins their division. Have you simmed it out?

Here is one player. Not all the information needed for that player is posted, but this is substantially enough.

Please multiply this by approximately 5700 real world players, or about individual 1,065,750 ratings.

I totally disagree. Beckham-#1 draft pick in baseball this year. Will start in Rookie league or in A ball as almost all drafted players do. What does that have to do with his potential? (which is off the charts). His actual ratings may be low- and yes, it's a long and sordid path to the big leagues- but his POTENTIAL should reflect his overall promise- but his current ratings may get him a ticket to rookie ball or A ball. He's 18 for pete's sake. I could make a pretty good argument that baseball's BEST prospects potential wise (in terms of numbers) are in either Rookie, Shortseason A or high A.

There are literally a million ratings to enter.

Entering stats helps a bit, but then you get a warmed over version of Lahman for major leaguers, and your minor league players are going to be biased towards older players playing below their level, as they will perform better against weaker opposition.

Why on God's Green Earth would ANYONE enter into a project with the ONE person (OZZIETHESAINT, Pujols5- whatever your alias is now) in these forums that is a proven liar and- to my knowledge, has never even remotely come close to completing a roster set- even when someone like Erich had done 95% of it.

Honestly, why you haven't been banned already again is beyond me. It is simply impossible for someone to have worse track record in this area.
