Does anyone recognise it?
Hi all, I have a small request that I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with. Its regarding my avatar - it comes from a logo set (my favourite MLB logo set out there!) that I got from here sometime back around OOTP 6 time, and I was hoping that someone might know either who made it, or maybe knows of the effect that was used. What I'm really after is the new Rays logo done in the same style - I can't find an effect on the GIMP to do it, so I'm hoping that someone with photoshop, Corel or some other program might recognise it and be able to help out.
Here's a couple of other logos from the set: ![]() All help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. ![]()

I don't know who did those, but it looks like a glass effect I have in Xara Xtreme. I used the effect on each component of the logo (text, circles, graphic).
![]() Not quite the same, but close. |

That is pretty close justafan - is it possible to make each part "more" glassy, if that makes sense? Pleace could you try it on the new Rays logo for me?
Cheers. |

How's this?
![]() It'll take more experimenting with the effect. Maybe I'll try again later. with black background...

Blimey, that was quick! Looks good to me, but if you want to experiment a bit more then who am I to stop you?!
Providing you have no objections, I plan on trying my hand at making an animated gif (very basic - I've never done one before) using it, hopefully for a new avatar. Thanks again justafan!

Hmm, thats a good question. I seem to remember that some program that I have downloaded (or otherwise installed) has a feature that lets you do it. Haven't tried it yet to see if its any good though. If it isn't, then I shall just try out some freeware programs until I find a good one. If you happen to know a good program that'd be great!
![]() As you can see, I haven't thought this through all that well - but I wanted a new challenge to keep me occupied for the next week... |

It looks like the original logos have an emboss filter applied to give a 3D or raised effect. I use Paint Shop Pro and have a group of filters from Graphics Plus. It contains an Emboss filter that you use sliders to control the effect. I think the Gimp can use Photoshop compatible filters, as does PSP. Here's a link to a page with dozens of filters, also called plug-ins.
Magstags Filters Page Older versions of Paint Shop Pro included Animation Shop. It is now a separate program. This program is easy to use to make GIF animations. I've made animations from NBA Live screenshots. PSP9 includes Animation Shop 3. Here's a 30 day trial. Download Animation Shop 3.05 Free Trial - Animation Shop provides the tools you need to easily add animated buttons, banners and other cool effects to your web site - Softpedia I believe this is a legal download for PSP7 trial. At that time the trial did not expire. I have also read that there was a free and legal download of AS available but I could not find it. Download Paint Shop Pro with Animation Shop v7.0 Shareware software - Softlookup Downloads |

Awesome, thanks micropterus58! If those filters do work with the GIMP, then I am going to have no problem passing the time until v9 arrives (and probably a bit more after too!).

So... here's my first attempt, let me know what you think. Sadly its way too big a file to use as an avatar here - back to the drawing board on that plan

Hmm, doesn't seem to be working for me either... but I already have the original set of logos, so I guess what I really need to know is whether eriq is still active round these parts... anyone know?
BTW thanks lukasberger for tracking down where they came from
