OOTP 9 Real Rosters Discussion
Please list issues about the real rosters here.
Please be specific. BAD The Phillies stink, there are hundreds of issues! Too many bad pitchers in the bigs! GOOD Ryan Howard is rated as a shortstop? I protest! Ryan Dempster has a control rating that is too high! |

Almost all the contracts are wrong...what is the plan? Is there an excel file with all the data that could be edited by various people and then cobbled together and reimported or manually entered into the game to fix this?

Contract data was deliberately made fictional to avoid issues with MLBPA.

I had this in the other thread...but the Cincinnati Reds are listed with 113 million in budget room, making them close to 30 mil under budget and having the #7th biggest budget in the MLB. I think part of the problem might be the Reds have a listed market size of 'Big'. I'm not too sure that's horribly accurate

Lots of players have the Nickname Null... seems impossible to completely erase it in the ingame editor.. leaves the N no matter what I do
Ratings need a complete overall... Guys need to be capable of playing at the levels they should play at... too many 1 star, useless ratings guys player positions for the minor leaguers need overhauled Example... Mark Hamilton Springfield Cardinals 1b only has the ability to play 2b and I think 3b off the top of my head... first problem here is he throws LH'ed and has never played anywhere but 1b and DH Fictional coaches and managers need to go away Pitches and velocity needs updating... go to fan graphs.com More to come as I delve deeper into it... Im just starting to fix the Dbacks organization now |

Going through the Indians Org, there were a number of inaccuracies/issues I had. I'll list them here once I write them down, some might seem "nitpicky," but I'm just trying to make the game as accurate as possible

Alright, so the Indians organization, again I hope I'm not being too critical. I've decided to delegate the importance of them from 1 to 5 stars and adjusted them base on impact to the game and how much "opinion" is in it (i.e. potentials)
First of all, movement on the active roster. Matt Miller, Bauer, Aubrey and Tyner should be in the minors. Kobayashi, Borowski, Marte, and Fransisco should be up. 5 Star concerns: -Adam Miller is missing, and he's considered their top prospect -Masa Kobayashi is the MLB set-up man and needs much better ratings I'd say 12/11/14 and endurance of 6. -Cliff Lee based on his performance should have much better ratings too. Something of the ballpark of 11/12/16 4 Star concerns: -Sizemore should have better range/error ratings (he did win a gold glove last year) also a bit better speed and eye -Mujica's control rating is much too good- he should be a 1 star reliever -Matt Miller is on the Pittsburgh AAA team IRL, and he should be a 1/2 star reliever (Tried to come back from injury and has 8.50 ERA in AAA currently) -Betancourt should be MR, have a bit lower movement and lower control -Borowski should be the MLB closer -Ben Fransisco should be on the MLB roster and have much better speed (he is considered above average and is currently at 1) I'd give him a bit better contact and eye ratings too (not as important) -Marte should be a 3B on active roster -Franklin Gutierrez should have 200 xp in CF, range of 20 (Look at zone stats; he. is. a. beast.) and a 15+ arm. Also he's faster (13ish) and should have more potential IMO -Tony Sipp a top 10 Org prospect is missing (he's a MR currently recovering from surgery) 3 Star concerns: -Victor Martinez needs to be better defensively (threw out 4th most runners and had 5th best % last year) -Hafner's stealing/running are to high, and power/contact should be lowered -Michael Aubrey can only play 1st base -Bauer's ratings are high should be a 1 star MR. In AAA -Choo injured until mid May. Needs better arm (threw a low 90s fastball in HS) And eye should be above average (13?) and average power (11?) -Mike Pontius has 2 years of pro experience IRL, not 5 -Chris Nash is a 1st baseman with power potential IRL, not a slap hitting 2B -Tyner should be in the minors -Josh Rodriguez is a 2B only and faster (he is seen as having 20 HR/ 20 SB potential) -Laffey better control (14-15ish) -Carmona higer movement lower control -Matt McBride, the highest upside catcher in the system, is missing 2 Star concerns: -Weglarz running speed/steals are too high as well as his defensive ratings -Shoppach's defensive ratings are too high (should be just slightly better than Victor) -Asdrubal Cabrera is a natural SS IRL, also should be faster -Dellucci's arm should be on par with Damon (7?) also range should be lower -Peralta should have higher speed/power and lower range -Beau Mills should have much lower arm/range and higher power potential -Kevin De La Cruz should be a 4 star potential , not Heath Taylor (never heard of the guy) -Toregas is a defensive first catcher 1 Star concerns: -CC's stuff should be about 12-13 -Frias/Tseng/Nottingham lower potential all over -Huff Stuff potential about 12 (He is flying through the minors and would be the next started called up at the moment) -Rivero more power potential -Garko more gap power -Stephen Head + Scott Lewis are missing (both mid range prospects) Heh, wow, a lot there. Again not all of it is crushingly important, but hopefully the way I ranked them in importance helps out. I could also do this for a couple other teams if it helps out. I know the Tribe by heart, but I know a lot about the Rays/Nats/Mets as well |

I think it could have at least been made a little bit closer to real life w/o worrying about this issue (if this is really even an issue, using real names would seem to be of more concern than $ amount from my nonlegal point of view).

Ratings as ????
<HR style="COLOR: #cea98d" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->Why is so many players NOT rated at their primary position in QuickStart 2008. I found lots of them and it troubles me. Just click up a roster (any team) and everyone can see tons of players (and it´s not third degree players) without any rating points. Take a look at P Carlos Marmol ... no rating as pitcher Russel Martin no rating as catcher Jason varitek, Jon Lester and on and on Please explain so these players don´t underachieve or getting low rating from scouts and such |

I am just the messenger. It seems ******ed to me that stat data is treated in one manner, and salary data another.

Your post is exactly what I am hoping for. The only possible criticism I have with it is that there are a few players that are referred to by just their last names. That's small potatoes.

I know some people in my league are willing to do all the contracts for every major league team. If nobody else is doing this, than we will gladly do this.

And here comes another newb question... I just imported an OOTP 8 league into OOTP 9, but have no intentions to continue with it. I simply brought it over because I was hoping that I could re-start it in hopes that I could at least use it because the rosters were more accurate in OOTP 8. Is it possible to start over with an imported OOTP 8 league that would have the rosters work as the OOTP 8 ones in 9?

I know you mentioned that salaries were fictional to prevent problems with the MLBPA, which is fine, but I was wondering if it was possible to get them a bit closer to real life (at least years-wise.) I mean, the Yankees' payroll is under 80 million dollars, and while I would certainly love that (
), it's not even close to real life. The KC Royals have nearly double the salary of the LA Dodgers. The Dodger's real-life 2008 Payroll is nearly 120 million dollars, but it's under 30 million in the game. Alex Rodriguez is under contract for one year when in real life it's 10. Carl Pavano is on a minor league contract, and while, again, I wish that were true, it's not. I'm not sure about the legal issues, but do they need to be so far off? I really appreciate all of the work that was put into the rosters, though.
