Ball flight is unexpectedly great - really adds to the feel of the game.
I'm a little uncomfortable without a working manual. Too many unanswered questions and awkward surprises. For example; I have been playing exhibition games while trying to figure out how the new features work. In the middle of the 5th inning I realized that my starting pitcher had thrown 170 pitches! Since I was testing the ball flight grid I was using the same team - and the 4-man pitching rotation had rolled over. It seems that all the exhibition games that I had been playing had all been taking place on the same day, and the fatigue was carrying over! Without a manual describing exhibition games, I have no way of knowing if I have just ruined my pitcher's arm right before preseason. There seems to be no way to control the volume range of the crowd noise. While the new version is exciting, it's going to take some getting used to.

For a quicker import, just copy the .dat files from your league and import them only.

Can you post again what the ball flight grid designations mean again - and what they are meant to do. I remember that you told us a few weeks ago but in all the confusion today in the forum, I couldn't locate the thread. For example: some designations are meant to be placed on the outfield walls, and some seem to relate to the foul lines. Without a manual, I can't tell whether a ball hit down the sidelines is "fish or foul" ![]() Thanks again for all your support.

I haven't been able to delve too deep into the game, but have run some simulations. So far, I'm real happy. I was a bit skeptical on if the game could bring back MLB simmers like myself. So far, so good though.
Here are a couple things I've noticed: - Real old players being given multi-year deals. Clemens got a 3-year deal, Lofton a 3 year deal, and Bonds a 2-year deal. This may be a completely unique thing though as their ratings are real high for someone those ages. In any event, perhaps age should factor into the length of contract deals moreso. Someone over the age of 40 is not going to get more than a year (2 tops). I'd rather see them get huge salaries and only one year. - Real glad to see teams giving some of their stars extensions before and during the season. - Love the suspensions. Some of them seem real long though (7 games for arguing, etc). Would like to see them at 1-5 games which is typically the norm. I'm wondering if certain player's are more inclined to get suspended? The Miltron Bradley rating. - Middle relievers are still a bit underated (particularly in trades). Teams are starting to realize the immense value of a top notch middle reliever in real life. For instance, it's still easy to grab a great one from a team for a mediocre everyday player or starter. They also don't demand nearly what they should salary wise. The Cards were able to get Carlos Marmol (one of the highest rated in the game) and a minor leaguer for Ryan Ludwick. - Random retirements. Saw one in the game in the middle of the season. Perhaps this was a guy who was going to be released. He was 39 and actually having a real strong year. Didn't make a lot of sense to me. Typically retirements are made when a player is released or at the end of the year. Not when his team is in a pennant race. - Career ending injuries. Just too many. I'm not a fan of these either as it is extremely rare with our medical technology. I'd be more inclined to make the injury be for a year and a half or two years instead of the career. They also happen to young players in the game. Career enders should really be for those over 35 in my mind. Just my personal opinion on CEI. I know there is a way for me to adjust. -The computer still dumps too many high quality minor leaguers for no reason. It's usually middle relievers. The free agent list is always filled with under 25 MR studs. Maybe that's just an issue with too many good middle relievers in the roster set. There are still other good position players. I just see no reason that a team would release any player under 25 with good ratings and potential without cause. - There are occasionally players with long term, big money deals who get released. I think I'd rather see the computer attempt to trade these guys (even if its for peanuts) instead of just dumping them. Otherwise, so far so good. I will add that some of these issues may be in part due to anamolies in the roster set. Haven't noticed any glaring problems and looks like I'll be spending a long time in front of the computer this summer. Glad to see OOTP back in my house. So far, I'm having a pretty good time. I think it's going to take me (and everyone else) awhile to get settled though. I usually muck around and experiment for the first couple of days until I finally settle on the type of league and league setup I want to play, then I actually starting "playing". That's usually when I notice bugs and gripes, but my gripes tend to be me throwing things around the room when my closer blows his third consecutive save
![]() I'm a person who played with scouting off last year, but because of the overhauled system this year, I'm trying it out. I think it's frustratingly realistic. It's going to take some time until I get a feel of how much money to spend where, and how wrong my scout typically is. It'll certainly make me look at my teams stats more instead of just ratings. I just think about the horror of drafting an ace pitching prospect and having him turn out to be completely awful. But the level of realism in that is awesome. |

I can't say enough how happy I am with the inclusion of the ABA fictional quick start game as this was something I've wanted for awhile. Love that it starts off in the 50's and that every team has a logo and jersey.
Any chance we might see ballparks for those teams? ![]() Other than that though, seems to be running very smoothly and am having no problems running on my laptop with Vista installed. Oh and horray for sound! Didn't realize how much I missed that the last 2 versions. Great to hear the crack of the bat once again. Congrats on a job well done to you and your beta team! |

I haven't really got to the "inside" of the new features BUT after 3 hours of importing my dynasty and going thru the offseason (why didn't I think to save????) I had a crash and nothing saved

It seems to be much faster ingame than before. But on the schedule screen, my team is still always at the bottom. I thought it was supposed to be up top, but i dunno

Played a couple of games so far and everything seems good. One thing though on the pitcher box where it shows his pitch count and status (i.e. OK) when it changes to Tired or Exhausted the first part of the word seems to be cut of... looks like Ired and hausted to me.
Otherwise a great effort from my short playtime so far

This was supposed to work and Markus has promised to patch. He knows about it and somehow escaped about 1 million other fixes that he did get done. (OK, I exaggerated. He only fixed 750,000 things that we beta testers reported.)
