Exclamation Good Idea (Please Read)

Hey all,

Im new to the OOTP World but thought of a great idea. With people making real player rosters, images, logos, I'm sure that this could be done by someone.

Some one should make a database with real rookies. The rookies you draft at the end of a season are fictional players. Some one should make a patch/database that has real rookies that are coming into the MLB league and are suppose to be in the MLB draft. Also in this database/patch you could have the Japanese players, Chinese and so on

This database/patch would allow leagues to have "REAL ROOKIES" and not just ficitonal players.

What do you think... post your thoughts...

I would not mind seeing this. The more real players, the more realistic OOTP is.

I have never understood why some threads have (PLEASE READ) at the end of their titles. Is it implicit in every other thread that we should NOT read them?

Just ranting. As for answering your question, I think there is a point of diminishing return on importing real players into the future. There is so much doubt as to who will be good or bad that it is just in my opinion better to live with the fictional rookies. You've got to begin with a fictional universe sometime.

ONe thing to remember and I haven't tested this yet [since release] but I do believe that you can't import rookies passed the last year in the lahmen DB which is 2003. That said I don't think that you can import rookies when starting a standard 2003 league. I know it has been mentioned to Markus to lift the year limit for importing players so we will have to wait and see if the patch corrects this. Just sending out a heads up I would love the ability to import rookies for future years.

If i'm running a fictional league to start with, i don't want to use real rookies.

Besides, if you start a historical league, don't you get real rookies?

And because we can sim so fast, having rookies beyond the current year would be impossible. Unless you do a league that plays a game a day so that your season begins and ends with the real MLB.

Obviously this would be for leagues that are real. There would be no point in using them in leagues without real players. For historical leagues they could also be used, depending on how far back you start.

The problem brought up about the rookies not coming out quick enought because you would sim a season alot quicker then the new rookies would come up does have a good point.

Its just an idea I figured I would throw out there to see who was interested. I figure if your gonna use a league with real players, why not also use real rookies?

His idea must be that the more support (aliases) this gets, the better chance of someone actually doing work for him.

It's a nice idea, but I don't see it working very well for just the reasons mentioned above. After the first year or so of real-life simming, you run out of real rookies to import. How can one possibly guess who will be drafted in 2005-6, etc.?
