[FBBL Retro] Long running league needs two for 1991

FIRST THINGS FIRST: DO NOT PM ME ON THIS BOARD AS I DON'T CHECK MY ACCOUNT OFTEN ENOUGH -- ABOUT TWICE A WEEK -- FOR A MORE RAPID RESPONSE CONTACT JAMES & MYSELF AT FBBLLO@YAHOO.COM!

Gents,

The FBBL has been running since 2001 and we're currently on our third league. FBBL One ran from 2001-2004 (real time), FBBL 2 ran from 2004-2007 (real time) and FBBL Retro began in 2007 and we're presently going strong in the 1991 season. We've taken small breaks (1-4 months) but we've more or less been running strong since 2001. So, we're a stable league to say the least. Extremely active boards and members, too.

This is our first historical league as the previous two were modern day leagues. I've always wanted to run a historical league but never would because 6.5 and back had pretty horrible Historical options. I just couldn't dig George Brett making 25 mil per for six years. I didn't like there wasn't the complete history etc... when OOTP 2007/8 hit, I was inspired to run a historical league and to date, it's my favorite. We began in 1988 and we're currently in 1991. The Off-season of 1991. Free agency is going to begin tomorrow [Tuesday 6/9] more than likely so it's the perfect time to jump on board.

I don't know if such things are unique to our league but there are a few things you have to take into account as some new GM's seem to be put off by these precedents and rules.

- Our GM base is mainly 25 years old + but they are a passionate group about the league and the rules. Our league members usually enforce the rules for us... they catch more violators than I do.
- We base our finances off the real MLB finances for the year we're in. There's a website with a detailed study and numbers for revenue vs player salaries for each year dating back to 1985. We use this to setup our finances. As a result, we have rather stringent budgets right now for a lot of teams as we near the strike season. This has a ripple effect in both our trade market and free agency market.
- Trade-a-holics need not apply to our league. We have about 12-16 trades per season processed and most of which occur around the trade deadline and off-season, as in real baseball. It's not a rule or anything but that's just how it goes down. So, if you're one of those guys that likes to pull off a trade every single day then you probably won't be happy here.
- We also, as a group [ie. the entire league] re-rate our AMA drafts so they are as accurate as humanly possible. We also, as a group, discuss and devise all new league rules etc. James and myself are only dictators when we need to be... which, is extremely rare. We're pretty democratic about everything we do and allow for input from each and every owner so each person has a say in molding their league experience.

Our sim schedule is Monday, Wednesday and Saturday with 10 games per sim. The league is ran by James Jones and myself [Jason Howard] and we've both been in the OOTP community since 2000-2001. So, we're pretty stable in the fact that we're not going anywhere anytime soon. We can basically offer you a league that won't up and fold tomorrow. We're also open to newbie owners as well as experienced and anything in between. The only thing we really frown upon are GM's in a ton [read: 5+] of leagues. I've always had bad experiences with GM's that spread themselves that thin. We don't want the league to be married to you but we don't want it to be a bi-monthly fling, either.

Here are the open teams.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

TEAM: Kansas City Royals - HOMEPAGE
1988 RECORD: 95-67
1989 RECORD: 71-91
1990 RECORD: 76-86
FARM: 12th of 26: Featuring Dave Fleming, Vinny Castilla & Lee Stevens.
FINANCIALS: In good shape. They went over budget this season by five million dollars but their revenue more than covered the gap. They should have close to 7 mil cash on hand (our team cash max, currently) and don't have any albatross contracts.

ROSTER: The Royals have had one owner since the league began and have retained pretty much their entire roster. Brett, Bo Jackson, Seitzer, Bret Saberhagen, Danny Tartabull etc... are all still here. In fact, offensively speaking, they have a heck of a team. Their pitching has experienced some setbacks due to retirements, free agency losses and in the case of Mark Gubicza, a nasty shoulder injury derailed his career. All in all, a pretty good team to come in with as there's vast potential here.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

TEAM: San Francisco Giants - HOMEPAGE
1988 RECORD: 84-78
1989 RECORD: 68-94
1990 RECORD: 67-95
FARM: 23rd of 26: Featuring Darryl Kile and Jeff Conine.
FINANCIALS: Excellent! They are in the top five teams of the league when strictly speaking of financials. Plenty of cash and they're one of only a handful of teams to record profits in all of the first three seasons. Their budget has went down some since they've been a losing franchise for the past two seasons but there's a lot of potential there to really go through the roof with profits and increase the payroll. If this team is running well there's no reason their budget couldn't be amongst the top 10 budgets in the league.

ROSTER: Their roster is pretty much untouched as well. Our league doesn't trade a whole lot and most of our owners are 25+, so there's fewer of the trade-a-holics around. Our last Giants GM was a really good guy and he had been in FBBL dating all the way back to 2003-2004. Work issues have made it to where he couldn't run the team here lately and he's missed free agency the past two seasons which has really hurt the Giants. They haven't been ran poorly... just had a GM who couldn't handle running them anymore due to real life issues. He's still currently running them until we find a replacement for him. They still have Will Clark, Matt Williams, John Burkett, Kevin Mitchell and pretty much every stud from those late 80's, early 90's Giants teams.

The Royals were scooped up pretty quickly but the Giants are still open if anyone is interested.
