Editing players

I take it there's no way to edit a player once the season has begun. Padres Chris Young is having a terrible time with walks. He's pitched 26 innings so far and he's given up 28 walks. I look at his real stats and so far this season, he's walked 30 in 58 innings. A bit of a discrepancy there.

Anyway, just wondering

I think, as long as you are in commissioner mode (you may need to change this at the managers screen) you should have access to the player editor.

I agree. If you are in commissioner mode you will have access to the player editor.

Unfortunately you cannot edit players during a game. I have been trying to get this function reinstated for years. This "failing" makes refining your league a bit more cumbersome. As things stand now, during a game when I need to make a refinement I have to write down the information and hope to remember to do it after the game. Here are some useful reasons for having this capability during a game...

1. Correcting a misspelling in a player's name (i.e., Ra instead of Ray).
2. Changing the Facegen of an ugly default face.
3. Correcting a mistaken ethnicity type for the Facegen.
4. Changing the Facegen background to be more compatible with the face.
5. Adding a new nickname.

Markus! Please give us back this capability - please!

The reason why this is not available is to prevent users from thinking about cheating

Hey, I wouldn't change my 9 hole hitter to all 250s in the player editor in the bottom of the 9th of Game 7 in the World Series.

No sir. Not me. Nuh uh.

LOL. Wonder if the ball boy in Colorado handling the doctored baseballs (they're supposed to come out of the humidore, "undoctored" balls travel further) feels the same way about a possible game 7, bottom of the ninth situation???????????????????????????

I suspected that that might be the reason, but what you're talking about is just the difference between "cheating" during a game as opposed to both between & during games. If people want to cheat (which can already be done) with their teams, they can do it more efficiently between games anyway (perhaps ultimately, at their own enjoyment loss).

The examples that I gave would not constitute cheating (IMO), but would be used to improve the game and correct mistakes - to help us to help you. Since people can already "cheat" if they are so inclined (between games), I don't think that you are gaining a whole lot by preventing it during a game.

I submit to you that there would be less inclination to cheat during a game precisely because it is during a game - people want to finish their game. It would be more appropriate during a game to use it just occasionally for the examples given.

Have said all this, suppose that you are completely correct. If someone has paid you for a copy of the game, would it be so bad to allow them to "fix" some of the data if that gives them more enjoyment? Commissioner mode is only available to a user in solo leagues, so no one else is harmed by the editing changes (since online leagues actually have a real commissioner).

On balance, preventing in-game editing does not prevent cheating, but it makes spur-of-the-moment improvements/corrections more difficult. By allowing in-game editing, I think you are getting more good stuff than allowing bad stuff.

Either way, I appreciate your considerable efforts and your attention to people's comments. At worst, I'll continue to write down editing improvements/corrections on a sheet of paper and make them between games - and still consider myself fortunate to have an opportunity to play & enjoy this game!

funny because in the previous versions that did allow in game editing I always used it to "cheat" against me!

I have one league that I play in god mode and my team always wins too many games and I have frequently scaled back their ratings in order for them to win less, not more.

My point exactly! I think the vast majority of people would use the editing feature to improve/enhance their experience - not cheat so they win more games.
