How about for the initial draft only fighters from the UTBA Season 5 rosters are not available. This will definitely start things off fresh.

Just a thought...
The only problem this might cause involves flys. We might be a little short on talent there. Apart from that, a complete new start, like you suggest, might be interesting.

I'm not home right now, so I can't check, but how many combined Flyweight / Junior Flyweight / Strawweight fighters are there in the 2.5 DB?

If they all get lumped into a single weight class, there should be no problem for the initial draft.

After that, I'm guessing that Scot will add fighters to the draft pool for season 2 that would include UTBA retreads.

Also, I'm just suggesting guys from the Season 5 main rosters - not any of the guys that were dumped into the Minors or previously used guys that were dumped on the waiver wire.

As of right now there are 292 Flys, 147 Jr. Flys, and 144 Straws for 583 fighters which would be more then enough to fill up a division. If I'm not mistaken these division were already combined in the original UTBA.

Thanks for the info Romy.

Curious: How many of 583 are rated '0'? I'm guessing that they will not be used in UTBA-II. I can't believe that we will use fighters that will not count towards the cap. (I would hate to see teams w/ (10) 10-rated guys, (1) 5-rated guy, and 5 0-rated guys.

I'm not a big fan of not including guys from the past league. I'd be more in favor of being able to retain 2-4.

I was thinking that if we get, say, 24 teams, we could divide them into four divisions of 6 and have a 16 week season. So there'd be no conferences, just one league with four divisions. Each season you'd play your divisional opponents twice plus either all the teams from one other division or two teams from each of the other divisions.

Playoffs could be four division champions plus four wildcards, who would come from any division.

This would help to avoid the situation we had where Mike's team missed the playoffs despite winning almost all their matches.

That would work, but I think that the ageing formula needs to be tweaked to allow for longer careers. Fighters should at least be able to hang around for 4-5 seasons before they leave Prime.

I'm all about about keeping Mike down. I say no to this idea.

Yep, I figure that will be necessary.

I also think it would be cool if we kept the divisional makeups similar to how they were in the original UTBA. Preserving certain rivalries would be a good thing.

Won't be the same for me if I don't have Johnson and Arguello.

Welcome back scot,

being that I thought I had a good chance of finally breaking into the playoffs I am slightly disappointed we are starting over but it is probably for the best long term. I'd like to be in if there is still room.

There has been mention of a couple a "bugs" and the need for a new patch. Is the plan to wait for patch#2 or start up ASAP.

Update...........

Sign-ups for the league restart (UTBA II) will be taken on this thread.

Once we have a list of owners in place........we'll fine tune & finalize the rules and start a new thread.
The old UTBA rules will be used for starters.

Rule changes on the table so far:

I) Change the current team cap system to work within the new game.
example....a fighters overall rating will change now as he advances through the different career stages.

II) Do away with the minor leagues.

III) Give 3 points for a unanimous dec. win instead of 2.

IV) Adjust (increase) the number of fights it will take a fighter to age.

V) Split the 24 teams into 4 divisions (6 teams each) and do away with the Gold/Silver Conference. Also have 4 wildcard teams in addition to the 4 division winners in the playoffs.

************************************************** *******

The Team limit for the UTBA II will be set at 24 teams Courtesy of course will be given to any owner from the original UTBA as far as the sign ups go. Original owners will be sent a PM and have one week to respond. If they do not respond within one week, their team spot will be forfeited and given to one of the new members listed below.

Any new member wanting a spot in the UTBA that does not get a spot this time around, will be placed on a waiting list in the order their sign up was received.

List of interested owners for the restart so far......

16)
17)
18)
19)
20)
21)
22)
23)
24)

New members list:

*Edit.....I just sent out the PMs to all of the past owners that have not signed up yet. They have until May 5, 2008 to respond.
Two past owners have already responded and I've gave their spots to the Mad Bomber & Thunder.

Hey Jeremy,
Thanks for the welcome back.

I'm waiting for May 5th as that is the deadline I've set for the past owners in the UTBA to let me know if they are in this one (UTBA II) or not.

After we fill the league up, it will then be on to rule changes and then the draft. So I'd say we are a good 3 to 4 weeks away from starting anything.
